Efek Samping Tidur dengan Televisi Menyala

Beberapa orang senang menyalakan televisi hingga tertidur bukan tanpa alasan. Suara dari televisi berfungsi sebagai white noise yang diyakini membantu seseorang dapat lebih cepat tertidur dan tertidur lebih nyenyak. Namun sejumlah penelitian mengungkapkan bahwa tertidur dengan kondisi televisi menyala ternyata justru dapat mengganggu tidur dan kesehatan Anda.

Dilansir dari Healthline, berikut ini beberapa efek samping dari kebiasaan tidur dengan televisi menyala:

1. Mengurangi Jam Tidur

Para ahli mengungkapkan bahwa orang dewasa sebaiknya tidur 7-8 jam per hari setiap malam. Jika Anda tidur kurang dari 7 jam per hari maka kondisi ini dikenal dengan istilah sleep debt. Kurangnya jam tidur dapat berdampak pada kemampuan Anda untuk fokus dan berpikir jernih sepanjang hari. Apabila kebiasaan ini terus dilanjutkan, sleep debt juga dapat menyebabkan masalah kesehatan fisik dan mental.

2. Menurunkan Produksi Melatonin

Melatonin merupkan hormon yang membantu seseorang untuk tidur. Dengan adanya produksi hormon melatonin, tubuh Anda mengetahui kapan waktu untuk tidur dan terjaga. Televisi dan barang elektronik lainnya menghasilkan sinar biru yang dapat mengurangi produksi melatonin yang dihasilkan tubuh. Akibatnya, otak sulit memproses apakah saat ini adalah waktu siang atau malam dan membuat tubuh Anda sulit tidur nyenyak.

3. Merangsang Otak Agar Tetap Aktif

Saat tidur, otak seharusnya juga ikut beristirahat. Namun jika Anda tidur dengan televisi menyala, suara televisi seolah menerima stimulasi sehingga otak akan tetap bekerja aktif. Akibatnya, meskipun Anda tidur, Anda akan sulit untuk tidur nyenyak dan mudah terbangun. Jika Anda berhasil tidur dengan televisi menyala, Anda akan terbangun dalam keadaan tidak segar.

Di sisi lain, suara yang Anda dengar sebelum tidur juga dapat memengaruhi alam bawah sadar Anda. Karenanya, tak jarang orang yang tertidur dengan keadaan televisi menyala akan mengalami mimpi buruk yang menakutkan. Saat terbangun, mereka akan kesulitan untuk kembali terpejam dan mendapatkan tidur yang berkualitas.

4. Berdampak pada Kesehatan

Terbiasa tidur dengan televisi menyala dapat berpengaruh pada kualitas tidur Anda. Tanpa tidur yang cukup, Anda akan berisiko mengalami berbagai masalah kesehatan seperti tekanan darah tinggi, daya tahan tubuh melemah, susah konsentrasi dan mudah lupa.

Tak hanya itu, sebuah studi di tahun 2019 menyebutkan bahwa orang yang tidur dengan cahaya buatan seperti sinar televisi sering dikaitkan dengan obesitas. Menurut penelitian tersebut, risiko mengalami obesitas tetap tinggi meskipun Anda dapat tidur nyenyak.

 

Meskipun menyalakan televisi dapat membantu Anda tertidur, namun para ahli menganjurkan untuk tidak menggunakan suara televisi sebagai bantuan tidur. Apabila Anda memiliki masalah tidur seperti insomnia atau tidur tidak nyenyak maka sebaiknya konsultasikan ke dokter. Dokter akan memberi rekomendasi yang dapat membantu Anda tertidur seperti menjaga pola makan, menjaga kebersihan tempat tidur, mengurangi alkohol, dan lain-lain.
