Menjaga fungsi tiroid

Kelenjar tiroid memegang peranan penting dalam metabolisme tubuh. Agar tiroid bekerja dengan optimal, tubuh membutuhkan yodium yang dapat dijumpai dalam garam.

Kekurangan yodium dapat menyebabkan gondok, sembelit, badan mudah lelah dan kedinginan. Untuk memenuhi kebutuhan yodium Anda dapat mengonsumsi garam yang mengandung yodium.

 

Menjaga keseimbangan hidrasi tubuh

Salah satu manfaat garam bagi tubuh adalah membantu menyeimbangkan kadar elektrolit dalam tubuh. Elektrolit dalam tubuh berperan penting untuk menjalankan berbagai fungsi organ tubuh termasuk saraf, otak, jaringan dan otot.

Meredakan gejala cystic fibrosis

Cystic fibrosis adalah kelainan yang menyebabkan kerusakan parah pada paru-paru, sistem pencernaan dan organ tubuh lainnya. Kondisi ini memengaruhi sel yang menghasilkan lendir, keringat dan cairan pencernaan secara berlebihan. Lendir tersebut menyumbat berbagai saluran di tubuh terutama saluran pencernaan dan pernapasan.

Garam juga bermanfaat untuk menjaga kesehatan mulut. Berkumur dengan air garam dapat membantu mengatasi infeksi bakteri yang menyebabkan masalah pada gigi dan gusi serta membantu meredakan sariawan.

Menurut American Heart Association, kadar garam yang dibutuhkan tubuh orang dewasa adalah sejumlah 2.300 mg sodium per hari atau sekitar 3/4 sendok teh garam. Sementara itu, rata-rata orang mengonsumsi garam sebanyak 1,5 sendok teh per hari.

Apabila Anda memiliki kondisi kesehatan yang mengharuskan Anda membatasi asupan garam maka sebaiknya kurangi asupan garam dalam makanan sehari-hari. Gunakan bumbu pengganti garam seperti bawang putih atau lada untuk menyedapkan masakan, serta perbanyak sayuran mengandung natrium untuk memenuhi kebutuhan natrium.
