Gendang telinga (membran timpani) adalah jaringan tipis yang memisahkan saluran telinga bagian luar dan bagian tengah. Karena sangat tipis, jaringan ini rentan mengalami kerusakan dan pecah.

Gejala Gendang Telinga Pecah 

Dilansir Mayo Clinic, berikut adalah gejala yang dialami apabila gendang telinga pecah:

  • Rasa sakit di telinga 
  • Keluarnya cairan berisi nanah atau darah dari telinga
  • Gangguan pendengaran 
  • Telinga berdenging (tinnitus)
  • Vertigo atau pusing
  • Demam
  • Mual dan muntah akibat vertigo

 

Penyebab Gendang Telinga Pecah

Ada beberapa hal yang dapat memicu pecahnya gendang telinga, antara lain:

Infeksi 

Infeksi telinga menjadi penyebab tersering pecahnya gendang telinga, biasanya pada anak-anak. Saat telinga mengalami infeksi, cairan akan terbentuk dan terkumpul dibalik gendang telinga. Hal ini dapat menimbulkan tekanan pada gendang telinga yang berakibat gendang telinga mengalami kerusakan atau bahkan pecah. 

Perubahan Tekanan Udara

Barotrauma adalam cedera yang diakibatkan adanya perubahan tekanan udara secara tiba-tiba. Beberapa aktivitas dapat menyebabkan perubahan tekanan udara pada telinga sehingga bisa memicu pecahnya gendang telinga.

Aktivitas yang dapat menyebabkan barotrauma:

  • Menyelam
  • Bepergian menggunakan pesawat
  • Mengemudi di ketinggian 
  • Benturan kuat dan langsung pada telinga

Cedera atau Trauma 

Adanya cedera atau trauma pada telinga atau daerah sekitarnya dapat menyebabkan pecahnya gendang telinga. Cedera yang dapat memicu pecahnya gendang telinga, antara lain:

  • Cedera langsung pada telinga
  • Cedera saat berolahraga
  • Kecelakaan saat berkendara

Apa yang Terjadi Jika Gendang Telinga Pecah?

Dilansir dari Mayo Clinic, berikut beberapa komplikasi yang bisa Anda alami bila gendang telinga pecah:

  • Kehilangan pendengaran
  • Infeksi telinga tengah (otitis media)
  • Tumbuhnya tumor jinak di telinga bagian tengah (kolesteatoma) → jarang terjadi

Untuk meredakan gejala dan mencegah terjadinya komplikasi di atas, ada beberapa hal yang bisa Anda lakukan:

  • Tidak memasukkan benda apapun ke dalam telinga, seperti cotton bud atau tetes telinga tanpa rekomendasi dokter
  • Gunakan penutup telinga untuk mencegah air masuk ke dalam telinga
  • Gunakan penutup telinga saat terpapar dengan suara yang keras 
  • Jangan berenang 
  • Hindari meniup hidung terlalu keras
  • Mengompres hangat area telinga 
  • Hindari bepergian menggunakan transportasi udara

Pengobatan Gendang Telinga Pecah

Gendang telinga yang pecah biasanya dapat sembuh tanpa perawatan ke rumah sakit. Umumnya, orang yang mengalami gendang telinga pecah akan merasakan kehilangan pendengaran yang bersifat sementara. Meskipun tanpa pengobatan, gendang telinga yang pecah dapat sembuh dengan sendirinya dalam beberapa minggu.

Operasi pembedahan dapat dilakukan, meskipun cukup jarang. Pemulihan penuh pasca operasi memerlukan waktu hingga 8 minggu.
