Selama ini cara paling populer di masyarakat untuk membersihkan telinga adalah dengan menggunakan cotton bud. Namun, cara ini ternyata tidak disarankan oleh para ahli. Bahaya cotton buds sebagai alat pembersih telinga cukup banyak dan dapat berakibat serius. Lalu, bagaimana cara membersihkan telinga yang benar?

 

Mengapa Ada Kotoran Telinga?

Kotoran telinga yang sering kita jumpai saat membersihkan telinga sebenarnya bukan benar-benar kotoran. Kotoran telinga atau yang juga dikenal dengan nama serumen, sebenarnya merupakan cairan yang berfungsi untuk mencegah partikel berbahaya masuk ke dalam telinga. Serumen juga berfungsi untuk menghambat pertumbuhan kuman, menangkap debu, dan menjaga agar air tidak masuk ke dalam telinga.

Pada dasarnya, kotoran telinga atau serumen tidak akan menimbulkan bahaya jika jumlahnya tidak berlebihan. Jika kotoran menumpuk terlalu banyak, maka hal ini dapat menyebabkan gangguan pendengaran. Selain itu, kotoran yang menumpuk juga dapat menyebabkan telinga gatal, infeksi telinga bagian tengah, dan memicu lubang pada gendang telinga.

 

Cara Membersihkan Kotoran Telinga dengan Benar

Ada beberapa cara membersihkan telinga yang kurang tepat namun dilakukan banyak orang. Contohnya, menggunakan cotton bud, penjepit rambut (bobby pins), atau pengorek telinga. Meskipun banyak orang yang lebih puas membersihkan telinga dengan cara ini, namun cara ini sebenarnya tidak disarankan.

Sebenarnya, telinga memiliki mekanisme tersendiri untuk membersihkan telinga. Kotoran telinga bisa keluar dengan sendirinya bersamaan dengan gerakan otot pipi saat mengunyah makanan. Jadi, jika Anda ingin membersihkan telinga maka yang aman dan perlu dibersihkan adalah bagian daun telinga atau telinga bagian luar. Namun, jika Anda ingin membersihkan telinga dengan benar, ada beberapa cara yang bisa Anda lakukan, yaitu:

 

1. Menggunakan Obat Tetes Telinga

Obat tetes telinga adalah salah satu cara paling aman untuk membersihkan telinga. Obat tetes telinga umumnya mengandung hidrogen peroksida atau sodium bikarbonat. Obat ini bisa Anda dapatkan di apotek secara bebas.

Cara menggunakannya, pastikan cairan obat benar-benar masuk ke dalam saluran telinga. Obat ini berfungsi untuk melunakkan gumpalan serumen sehingga mudah untuk dikeluarkan. Setelah beberapa lama, miringkan kepala dan teteskan air hangat ke dalam telinga, lalu miringkan kepala ke sisi lain untuk mengeluarkan kotoran telinga. Setelah keluar, keringkan telinga Anda dengan tisu atau handuk secara perlahan.

 

2. Metode Irigasi

Cara membersihkan telinga dengan irigasi adalah menggunakan suntikan atau spuit berlubang lebar yang telah diisi air hangat atau garam. Hindari menggunakan air dingin karena membuat tubuh terkejut dan membuat kepala Anda pusing.

Metode ini sebaiknya dilakukan setelah telinga ditetesi obat pelunak serumen. Setelah serumen cukup lunak, spuit akan disemprotkan ke telinga hingga kotoran telinga keluar. Untuk amannya, metode ini sebaiknya dilakukan oleh Dokter Spesialis Telinga, Hidung, Tenggorokan (THT). Pasalnya, cara ini cukup sulit untuk dilakukan seorang diri dan tidak semua orang bisa dibersihkan telinganya dengan cara ini. Orang yang memiliki riwayat lubang di gendang telinga cukup berisiko jika telinganya mendapat tekanan dengan metode ini.

 

3. Menggunakan Alat Khusus

Langkah lain untuk membersihkan telinga adalah dengan menggunakan alat khusus untuk mengeluarkan kotoran telinga seperti alat penghisap (suction) atau sendok serumen. Namun, untuk metode ini hanya dapat dilakukan oleh Dokter. Penggunaan alat khusus sendiri atau tanpa pengawasan dapat berakibat serius, seperti rusaknya gendang telinga atau cedera lainnya.

 

Bagi Anda yang memiliki banyak serumen dan kerap mengganggu pendengaran Anda, maka sebaiknya kunjungi Dokter Spesialis THT secara rutin untuk membersihkan kotoran telinga. Terutama jika masalah kebersihan telinga Anda berkembang menjadi pusing, gatal, keluar cairan atau darah dari telinga, dan muncul bau tidak sedap dari telinga.
