Metode KB (kontrasepsi) tidak hanya tersedia untuk wanita. Ada beberapa opsi alat kontrasepsi untuk pria yang juga efektif untuk mencegah kehamilan.

Ragam Pilihan Kontrasepsi Pria

Ada beberapa metode kontrasepsi atau KB yang dapat digunakan pria, di antaranya:

Kondom

Kondom adalah alat kontrasepsi yang paling umum digunakan. Kondom mencegah kehamilan dengan menghalangi sperma masuk ke dalam saluran reproduksi wanita dan juga melindungi dari infeksi menular seksual (IMS).

Efektivitasnya dalam mencegah kehamilan sekitar 98% apabila digunakan dengan benar.

Spermisida

Spermisida adalah bahan kimia yang digunakan untuk mencegah kehamilan dengan membunuh sperma sehingga tidak dapat membuahi sel telur. Biasanya, spermisida harus dimasukkan ke dalam vagina sekitar 10-15 menit sebelum berhubungan intim. Setelah berhubungan intim, spermisida harus dibiarkan selama minimal 6 jam.

Dalam penggunaannya, spermisida bisa digunakan tanpa alat kontrasepsi tambahan dengan efektivitas sekitar 70-80%. Untuk meningkatkan efektivitas perlindungannya, spermisida biasanya digunakan bersama alat kontrasepsi lain seperti kondom.

Sanggama terputus

Sanggama terputus atau dikenal dengan istilah coitus interruptus adalah metode kontrasepsi yang melibatkan penarikan penis dari vagina sebelum ejakulasi. Tidak ada alat apapun yang digunakan dalam metode ini, namun efektivitasnya hanya sekitar 78% saja.

Metode kontrasepsi ini memerlukan insting yang sangat tepat dan keterampilan untuk menarik penis sebelum ejakulasi untuk memastikan metode ini sukses. Hal ini bisa menjadi sulit terutama jika Anda belum berpengalaman dalam berhubungan seks. Metode ini juga tidak melindungi dari infeksi menular seksual (IMS).

Vasektomi

Vasektomi adalah metode kontrasepsi pria yang bertujuan mencegah kehamilan dengan memotong atau memutus saluran sperma. Dengan memutus saluran ini, maka air mani yang keluar tidak lagi mengandung sperma sehingga dapat mencegah terjadinya kehamilan. 

Efektivitas vasektomi mencapai 99% dalam mencegah kehamilan. Vasektomi dianggap sebagai metode kontrasepsi permanen yang terjamin keberhasilannya.

Namun, dibutuhkan waktu sekitar 3 bulan untuk memastikan bahwa tidak ada sperma lagi dalam air mani. Selama periode ini, Anda disarankan menggunakan alat kontrasepsi lain seperti kondom untuk mencegah kehamilan.

Metode Kontrasepsi Pria Mana yang Terbaik?

Berdasarkan efektivitas dalam mencegah kehamilan, tentunya vasektomi menjadi metode KB yang paling tinggi efektivitasnya. Namun, karena metode ini melibatkan proses pemotongan saluran sperma, proses untuk mengembalikan saluran yang telah terpotong (vasektomi reversal) tidak lah mudah. Jadi, metode vasektomi tidak dianjurkan bagi Anda yang masih ingin memiliki momongan.

Keberhasilan vasektomi reversal cenderung lebih tinggi jika dilakukan dalam waktu beberapa tahun awal setelah prosedur vasektomi. Makin lama waktu berlalu sejak vasektomi, makin rendah kemungkinan keberhasilannya.

Jadi, memilih metode kontrasepsi pria kembali pada preferensi pribadi dan kebutuhan medis Anda. Anda mungkin perlu berdiskusi dengan dokter dan pasangan sebelum menentukan mana metode yang paling aman dan sesuai dengan kondisi Anda.
