Alat kontrasepsi kondom dapat membantu mencegah kehamilan. Perlindungannya efektif bila digunakan dengan benar. Tetapi Anda perlu tahu bahwa tidak ada alat kontrasepsi yang benar-benar 100% mencegah kehamilan. Anda mungkin masih bisa hamil walaupun menggunakan kondom saat berhubungan seksual.

 

Cara Kerja dan Jenis Kondom

Kondom adalah kontrasepsi untuk mencegah kehamilan. Kondom juga dinilai sebagai cara terbaik untuk melindungi dari infeksi menular seksual.

Ada tiga jenis kondom yang bisa digunakan untuk mencegah kehamilan, di antaranya:

  • Kondom pria - kondom yang dipasang di penis untuk mengumpulkan air mani saat ejakulasi terjadi
  • Kondom wanita - kondom yang dimasukkan ke dalam vagina untuk mencegah sperma mencapai sel telur
  • Kondom gigi - kondom khusus yang digunakan selama seks oral untuk mencegah infeksi menular seksual

Kondom dapat terbuat dari lateks, poliuretan dan kulit domba. Saat ini, kondom lateks adalah pilihan terbaik untuk mencegah kehamilan dan infeksi menular seksual karena tidak mudah robek dan dapat berfungsi dengan baik.

Apabila Anda alergi terhadap bahan lateks, maka Anda bisa memilih kondom berbahan poliuretan.

Efektivitas Perlindungan Kondom

Tidak ada metode pengendalian kelahiran yang memiliki tingkat 100% mencegah kehamilan. Kondom memiliki tingkat efektivitas senilai 98% sehingga artinya masih ada 2% kemungkinan bahwa Anda bisa hamil saat berhubungan seksual dengan menggunakan kondom.

 

Penyebab Kehamilan Walau Menggunakan Kondom

Kehamilan mungkin terjadi saat berhubungan seksual dengan menggunakan kondom karena penggunaan kondom yang salah atau kondom rusak. Ada juga kemungkinan bahwa cairan praejakulasi dapat mencapai sel telur sebelum kondom dipasang dengan benar.

Jika kondom adalah satu-satunya alat kontrasepsi yang Anda gunakan setiap kali berhubungan seksual, pastikan kondom dipasang dengan benar dan kondom tidak kedaluwarsa.

Kondom yang kedaluwarsa cenderung lebih mudah rusak dan robek. Saat Anda menyadari bahwa kondom robek, maka Anda perlu menggunakan alternatif alat kontrasepsi lain seperti pil KB darurat.

Pil KB darurat harus dikonsumsi sesegera mungkin setelah berhubungan seksual tanpa kondom, atau menyadari bahwa kondom yang digunakan rusak. Pil ini wajib dikonsumsi dalam waktu 120 jam setelah berhubungan seksual.

Cara Memaksimalkan Perlindungan Kondom

Bagaimanapun kondom tetap menjadi alat kontrasepsi yang paling praktis digunakan saat ini. Untuk memberikan perlindungan yang maksimal ketahui bagaimana cara menggunakan dan menyimpan kondom dengan benar berikut ini:

  • Gunakan kondom sebelum penis masuk ke dalam vagina
  • Simpan kondom di tempat yang sejuk, kering dan jauh dari paparan sinar matahari langsung agar perlindungannya efektif
  • Buang kondom yang sudah rusak, berlubang, berubah warna atau kedaluwarsa
  • Saat membuka kondom, bukalah dengan hati-hati tanpa menggunakan gunting, cutter, atau gigi yang berisiko menyebabkan robekan atau lubang
  • Gunakan lubrikan berbahan silikon untuk membantu memberikan pelumasan yang baik dan mencegah kondom robek saat digunakan. Hindari penggunaan baby oil atau jenis minyak lain yang justru menyebabkan kondom mudah robek
  • Segera keluarkan penis dan pegang kondom agar tidak tertinggal atau mengalami kebocoran
  • Buang kondom bekas pakai dan jangan digunakan kembali
