Manfaat Mandi Air Garam

Praktik mandi air garam telah lama dilakukan sejak ribuan tahun silam untuk perawatan kesehatan. Mandi air garam diyakini dapat meredakan beberapa keluhan kesehatan, membuat badan menjadi lebih rileks dan menjaga kesehatan tubuh secara keseluruhan.

Jenis garam yang digunakan untuk mandi garam umumnya adalah garam laut yang memiliki kandungan garam lebih banyak dari garam meja. Tekstur garam laut juga lebih kasar yang memungkinkan penggunaan garam untuk eksfoliasi kulit. Beberapa jenis garam yang digunakan untuk mandi garam antara lain garam Epsom, Himalaya, garam Laut Mati, juga garam lain yang dibuat khusus untuk mandi.

Meredakan nyeri otot

Mandi air garam telah lama dikenal sebagai salah satu kegiatan untuk meredakan otot tegang dan menghilangkan lelah sehingga membuat tubuh merasa lebih rileks. Sebuah penelitian mengungkapkan, mandi dengan garam Epsom diketahui dapat mengurangi ketegangan otot dan saraf. Jika dilakukan secara teratur, mandi dengan garam Epsom dapat membantu relaksasi otot dan saraf.

Meredakan gejala rematik

Bagi Anda yang memiliki rematik atau radang sendi lainnya, mandi air garam dapat meredakan rasa nyeri akibat peradangan sendi. Kandungan mineral dalam garam membantu meredakan peradangan pada sendi dan otot.

Meredakan masalah kulit

Mandi air garam terutama dengan garam Epsom dipercaya dapat membantu meredakan masalah kulit seperti jerawat, psoriasis, eksim, dan dermatitis atopik. Meski masih membutuhkan penelitian lebih lanjut mengenai manfaat garam Epsom untuk kulit, namun mandi air garam dapat meningkatkan kelembapan kulit sehingga mengurangi gatal akibat kulit kering. 

Para ahli mengingatkan, mandi air garam sebaiknya tidak menjadi satu-satunya pengobatan jika Anda memiliki masalah kulit. Selain berendam atau mandi dengan air garam, jika Anda mengalami gatal akibat psoriasis, eksim atau dermatitis atopik sebaiknya konsultasikan ke dokter agar mendapat penanganan sesuai.

Cara Mandi Air Garam

Untuk mempersiapkan mandi air garam, Anda hanya perlu menyiapkan garam, air hangat, bathtub, atau ember. Garam yang bisa Anda pakai antara lain garam Himalaya, garam Epsom, dan garam yang khusus diformulasikan untuk mandi.

Berikut cara mempersiapkan mandi air garam:

  • Siapkan 1/4 cangkir garam mandi
  • Masukkan ke dalam bathtub atau ember berisi air hangat
  • Jika menggunakan bathtub, rendam diri Anda selama 15-20 menit atau sesuai selera
  • Jika menggunakan ember, siramkan air ke tubuh, lalu pijat lembut seluruh tubuh Anda
  • Setelah selesai, bilas dengan air bersih kemudian keringkan dengan handuk

 

Meskipun mandi air garam memiliki sejumlah manfaat, namun mandi air garam tidak dianjurkan bagi orang yang memiliki luka bakar, infeksi kulit atau peradangan kulit lainnya.
