Pemeriksaan timpanometri adalah tes yang digunakan untuk mengevaluasi fungsi telinga tengah. Tes ini melibatkan pengukuran responsi telinga tengah terhadap perubahan tekanan udara.

 

Cara Kerja Tes Timpanometri

Pemeriksaan timpanometri dilakukan dengan menggunakan alat yang disebut timpanometer. Pemeriksaan dapat dilakukan dalam posisi duduk maupun berbaring.

Dalam pemeriksaan ini ada alat probe kecil yang terhubung dengan timpanometer yang akan dimasukkan ke dalam saluran telinga pasien. Probe ini menutupi saluran telinga dan menciptakan segel udara yang ketat. Kemudian, timpanometri akan memulai pengukuran dengan mengubah tekanan udara di saluran telinga.

Biasanya, tekanan udara di dalam saluran telinga akan berubah secara bertahap, naik dan turun. Selama perubahan tekanan tersebut, timpanometer akan merekam respons telinga tengah guna mengetahui seberapa baik gendang telinga bergetar pada berbagai tekanan.

Hasil pengukuran akan muncul dalam bentuk kurva. Hasil inilah yang nantinya akan dianalisis dan dievaluasi untuk menentukan apakah ada masalah seperti sumbatan telinga tengah, infeksi telinga tengah atau disfungsi saluran Eustachius.

Langkah berikutnya, dokter akan memberikan penjelasan apabila ditemukan adanya masalah. Dokter juga akan merekomendasikan perencanaan tindakan yang bisa dilakukan untuk mengatasi masalah Anda.

Secara umum tes timpanometri biasanya tidak menimbulkan rasa sakit. Namun, beberapa pasien mungkin merasakan sedikit tekanan atau sensasi aneh di telinga saat perubahan tekanan udara dilakukan.

 

Manfaat Pemeriksaan Timpanometri

Pemeriksaan timpanometri dilakukan untuk mendiagnosis beberapa masalah telinga, terutama yang berkaitan dengan kehilangan pendengaran. Pemeriksaan yang paling sering dilakukan adalah pada beberapa kondisi berikut:

 

Untuk mengetahui apakah ada infeksi telinga bagian tengah

Infeksi telinga bagian tengah biasanya disebabkan oleh infeksi virus atau bakteri. Infeksi ini lebih sering dialami bayi atau balita yang memiliki saluran bagian tengah telinga yang lebih pendek daripada orang dewasa.

Infeksi telinga bagian tengah biasanya ditandai dengan gejala sebagai berikut:

  • Nyeri di telinga
  • Kehilangan nafsu makan
  • Kesulitan tidur
  • Kesulitan mendengar karena telinga seperti tersumbat
  • Perasaan penuh dan adanya tekanan di telinga
  • Keluarnya cairan kuning, putih atau kecokelatan dari dalam telinga yang menandakan gendang telinga mungkin telah rusak

Pada anak-anak, infeksi telinga juga biasanya disertai dengan gejala sebagai berikut:

  • Menarik-narik atau menggosok telinga
  • Rewel dan menangis lebih sering daripada biasanya
  • Demam sekitar 38-40 derajat celsius
  • Terdengar seperti mendengkur
  • Menolak makan

Saat menyadari adanya tanda-tanda dan gejala di atas, maka perlu dilakukan tes timpanometri untuk mengonfirmasi dugaan infeksi telinga. Tes ini juga dapat membantu menentukan pengobatan yang tepat sesuai dengan kondisi infeksi telinga yang dialami.

Untuk mengetahui adanya cairan di telinga bagian tengah

Tes timpanometri dapat membantu dalam mendeteksi adanya cairan di telinga tengah. Ketika cairan terperangkap di telinga tengah, maka ini menjadi pertanda peradangan atau adanya penyumbatan di saluran eustachius.

Adanya cairan di telinga tengah menandakan otitis media berat atau otitis media dengan efusi. Untuk mengonfirmasinya dibutuhkan tes timpanometri guna mengetahui perubahan tekanan udara yang dihasilkan dalam saluran telinga.

 

Untuk mengetahui adanya robek di membran timpani

Tes timpanometri dapat memberikan petunjuk adanya robekan pada membran timpani (gendang telinga). Selanjutnya, diperlukan pemeriksaan visual langsung menggunakan otoskopi untuk melihat langsung ke dalam telinga dan memeriksa keadaan gendang telinga.

Untuk memeriksa masalah terkait saluran eustachius

Tes timpanometri dapat digunakan untuk memeriksa masalah terkait saluran Eustachius, yaitu saluran yang menghubungkan telinga tengah dengan rongga belakang tenggorokan. Tes ini dapat memberikan informasi adanya kemungkinan disfungsi.
