Ketika Anda mengalami gejala osteoporosis seperti perubahan pada postur tubuh, nyeri di punggung bawah atau patah tulang, dokter akan merekomendasikan Anda untuk menjalani tes kepadatan tulang agar dapat memastikan apakah gejala yang Anda alami adalah osteoporosis.

Tes kepadatan tulang tidak menimbulkan rasa sakit dan prosedurnya cukup cepat. Tes ini akan memperkirakan seberapa padat atau tebal tulang Anda dengan menggunakan sinar-X.

Tes kepadatan tulang digunakan untuk mengukur jumlah kalsium dan mineral yang terkandung di dalam tulang. Semakin banyak mineral yang Anda miliki, artinya semakin baik. Tulang Anda dalam kondisi kuat, padat, dan tidak rentan untuk patah.

Sebaliknya, bila kandungan mineral dalam tulang rendah, maka Anda memiliki risiko patah tulang yang tinggi saat terjatuh.

 

Manfaat Tes Kepadatan Tulang

Tes kepadatan tulang memiliki beberapa manfaat di antaranya:

  • Untuk mengidentifikasi adanya penurunan kepadatan tulang
  • Untuk memeriksa apakah ada risiko patah tulang
  • Untuk mendiagnosis osteoporosis
  • Untuk memantau efektivitas pengobatan osteoporosis

 

Jenis Tes Kepadatan Tulang

Ada beberapa jenis tes kepadatan tulang yang memiliki prosedur dan manfaat berbeda-beda, di antaranya:

Dual Energy X-Ray Absorptiometry (DXA)

Dual energy X-ray absorptiometry disebut juga densitometri tulang, DEXA atau DXA, merupakan tes yang sering dilakukan. Tes ini berfungsi untuk mengukur kepadatan tulang, terutama tulang pada bagian tengah tubuh seperti tulang belakang dan tulang pinggul.

Metode ini biasa digunakan untuk mendiagnosis osteoporosis dan memantau perkembangan terhadap pengobatan osteoporosis atau untuk mendeteksi kondisi lain terkait pengeroposan tulang. 

Peripheral DXA (pDXA)

Tes ini adalah jenis lain dari tes DXA, yang bermanfaat untuk mengukur kepadatan tulang, terutama pada tulang lengan dan tungkai bawah, seperti tulang kering dan radius (tulang di lengan bawah).

Quantitative CT (QCT)

Quantitative CT (QCT) adalah tes untuk mengukur kepadatan mineral tulang yang dilakukan dengan pemindai CT (CT scan) yang dapat menghasilkan gambar tiga dimensi dan sering digunakan dalam pemeriksaan tulang belakang bagian bawah dan tulang pinggul.

Pemeriksaan QCT biasanya digunakan untuk:

  • Mereka yang memiliki risiko osteopenia (massa tulang rendah)
  • Orang yang sedang mendapatkan perawatan karena osteoporosis
  • Mereka yang menerima atau akan menerima terapi obat steroid
  • Mereka yang memiliki kelainan tulang belakang
  • Orang memiliki penyakit tulang belakang

Peripheral QCT 

Adalah tes untuk mengukur kepadatan tulang dari tulang lengan dan tungkai bawah menggunakan pemindai CT.

Quantitative Ultrasound (QUS)

Jenis tes ini dapat menunjukkan kepadatan tulang dari tulang tertentu seperti tibia (tulang kering), radius (tulang pengumpil) dan kalkaneus (tulang tumit).

 

Hampir semua jenis tes kepadatan tulang bekerja dengan cara yang sama. Dokter akan menggunakan hasil pengukuran kepadatan tulang tersebut untuk mendeteksi osteoporosis atau fraktur.

Tidak diperlukan persiapan khusus apapun selama menjalani tes kepadatan tulang, Anda tidak perlu berpuasa atau membuka pakaian sepanjang pemeriksaan. Namun, Anda tidak akan diperkenankan menggunakan tindikan atau aksesoris logam apapun selama pemindaian DXA atau QCT karena dapat mengganggu radiasi sinar-X.

Prosedur tes kepadatan tulang tidak memakan waktu lama, umumnya pemeriksaan selesai dalam waktu 2 menit. Selama pemeriksaan, Anda hanya perlu berbaring di atas meja. Setelah hasil tes selesai, Anda perlu menyerahkannya pada dokter yang memiliki keahlian menginterpretasikan hasil tes.
