Dampak Berita Negatif pada Kesehatan Mental

Paparan berita negatif yang terus-menerus dapat memengaruhi pikiran dan kesehatan mental baik secara langsung maupun tidak langsung. Paparan berita buruk dapat meningkatkan stres yang pada akhirnya berkontribusi terhadap beberapa hal berikut:

 

Peningkatan kadar hormon stres kortisol

Kortisol atau yang juga disebut sebagai hormon stres adalah hormon yang diproduksi kelenjar adrenal. Kortisol sebenarnya memainkan banyak peran penting selain meregulasi respon tubuh terhadap stres. Kortisol membantu menekan peradangan, mengontrol siklus tidur, meregulasi tekanan darah dan gula darah, dan lain-lain.

Peningkatan hormon kortisol akibat stres bisa membuat seseorang mengalami kram, nyeri pada leher atau tengkuk, ketegangan otot, denyut nadi meningkat, kecemasan, dll.

Gejala depresi dan kecemasan

Penelitian menunjukkan bahwa konsumsi berita negatif yang berlebihan dalam waktu lama dapat memengaruhi kesehatan mental seseorang. Paparan berita negatif yang terlalu sering dapat mengganggu keseimbangan emosi seseorang dan memicu respons stres. Stres yang berlebihan dalam waktu lama dapat menyebabkan perubahan hormon dalam tubuh dan memengaruhi kesehatan fisik dan mental seseorang.

Sulit mempercayai orang lain

Berita negatif yang seringkali menampilkan kejahatan, korupsi, atau kekerasan dapat membuat seseorang lebih skeptis dan sulit mempercayai orang lain. Berita negatif dapat memicu rasa takut dan kecurigaan pada seseorang, sehingga membuatnya lebih waspada terhadap orang lain dan lingkungan sekitarnya.

 

Kualitas dan jumlah tidur yang menurun

Berita negatif yang terkait dengan kekerasan, bencana alam, atau kejadian traumatis lainnya dapat meningkatkan rasa takut dan kecemasan pada seseorang, dan bisa menyebabkan tidur tidak berkualitas. Kurang tidur dapat menyebabkan lelah, kelesuan, sulit berkonsentrasi, dan menurunkan produktivitas.
