Teh merupakan salah satu minuman yang digemari banyak orang. Teh berasal dari tanaman Camellia sinensis.

Ada beragam jenis teh yang telah dikenal sejak beratus tahun yang lalu. Teh yang paling terkenal di dunia adalah teh hijau, teh hitam, dan teh oolong. 

Mengonsumsi teh memiliki banyak manfaat bagi tubuh, namun bagaimana jika dikonsumsi dalam jumlah berlebih? Apakah ada efek samping yang dapat muncul?

 

Manfaat Mengonsumsi Teh 

Teh mengandung antioksidan yang disebut flavonoid, yang dapat membantu melawan radikal bebas penyebab kanker, penyakit jantung dan penyumbatan pembuluh arteri. Teh juga mengandung kafein dan theanin yang dapat memengaruhi otak dan meningkatkan kewaspadaan. 

Teh juga dimanfaatkan untuk menurunkan risiko penyakit kronis seperti kanker, diabetes dan penyakit jantung. Namun untuk mendapatkan manfaatnya Anda tidak boleh mengonsumsi secara berlebihan.

Dilansir dari Healthline, untuk menghindari efek sampingnya Anda dianjurkan mengonsumsi teh tidak lebih dari 3-4 cangkir per hari, atau sekitar 710-950ml per hari. Mengonsumsi teh lebih dari itu dapat meningkatkan efek samping yang memengaruhi tubuh. 

 

Efek Samping Terlalu Banyak Minum Teh 

Terlalu banyak minum teh dapat menyebabkan efek samping tertentu di tubuh. Sebagian efek sampingnya tentu saja dapat merugikan Anda. Apa saja efek samping yang mungkin dialami jika terlalu banyak mengonsumsi teh? 

Mengurangi Penyerapan Zat Besi 

Teh mengandung senyawa yang disebut tanin. Tanin dapat mengikat zat besi dari makanan dan membuatnya tidak terserap di saluran pencernaan.

Kekurangan zat besi dapat menyebabkan anemia, yang apabila dibiarkan terus-menerus dapat menyebabkan masalah jantung dan kehamilan, serta gangguan pertumbuhan. 

Setiap jenis teh mengandung kadar tanin yang berbeda-beda, yang juga dipengaruhi oleh cara pembuatan teh. Dikatakan bahwa teh hitam adalah yang paling tinggi kadar taninnya, sedangkan teh hijau yang paling rendah. Semakin lama Anda merendam teh maka kandungan taninnya akan semakin tinggi. 

 

Menyebabkan Sulit Tidur 

Karena teh mengandung kafein, minum teh terlalu banyak juga dapat mengganggu kualitas tidur. Beberapa penelitian menemukan bahwa mengonsumsi kafein terlalu banyak dapat menghambat produksi melatonin, hormon yang memberikan sinyal tidur pada otak. Inilah sebabnya Anda mengalami sulit tidur. 

 

Mual

Beberapa komponen di dalam teh dapat menyebabkan mual, terutama bila dikonsumsi dalam porsi yang banyak dan kondisi perut kosong. 

Heartburn

Heartburn adalah rasa sakit yang terasa seperti terbakar di dada. Terlalu banyak minum teh dapat menyebabkan heartburn atau gejala refluks asam yang sudah ada sebelumnya.

Penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kafein dapat mengendurkan sfingter (pintu) yang memisahkan kerongkongan dari lambung, akibatnya asam lambung jadi lebih mudah mengalir kembali ke kerongkongan. Dikatakan pula bahwa kafein berkontribusi terhadap peningkatan produksi asam lambung. 

 

Sakit Kepala 

Sejumlah kecil kafein dapat meredakan sakit kepala, namun bila dikonsumsi berlebihan justru dapat menyebabkan sakit kepala. 

Ketergantungan Kafein 

Kafein adalah stimulan yang dapat menyebabkan ketergantungan. Kafein withdrawal menyebabkan sakit kepala, mudah marah, peningkatan detak jantung dan kelelahan.

Mengonsumsi teh setiap hari dapat meningkatkan ketergantungan pada teh, yang apabila Anda berhenti minum maka Anda akan merasakan efek withdrawalnya seperti yang disebutkan di atas. 

 

Agar tidak menimbulkan efek samping yang merugikan, Anda disarankan membatasi asupan teh per hari. Anda juga mungkin bisa mengganti jenis minuman lain agar tidak mengalami ketergantungan dan kekurangan nutrisi. 

Diskusikan dengan dokter Anda apabila Anda sedang hamil atau memiliki kondisi kesehatan tertentu dan ingin tetap minum teh. Dokter akan membantu menyarankan berapa porsi teh yang aman diminum, sesuai dengan kondisi tubuh Anda.
