Jalan kaki memiliki sejumlah manfaat bagi kesehatan. Meningkatkan jalan kaki menjadi power walk juga dapat membantu meningkatkan manfaat jalan kaki lebih dalam lagi. Beberapa manfaat power walk antara lain:

Meningkatkan kebugaran

Jika dibandingkan dengan jalan kaki baisa, power walk memiliki dampak lebih besar pada kebugaran Anda. Peneliti mengungkapkan bahwa jalan cepat selama 6 minggu dapat meningkatkan kebugaran Anda jika dibandingkan dengan jalan dengan kecepatan rendah dalam jangka waktu yang sama.

Meningkatkan kesehatan kardiovaskular

Power walk dapat meningkatkan kesehatan jantung terutama pada pasien yang pernah mengalami serangan jantung. Dalam sebuah penelitian yang dilakukan pada kelompok pasien rehabilitasi jantung, melakukan power walk menunjukkan peningkatan yang substansial jika dilihat dari pengukuran ekokardiogram.

Menjaga berat badan tetap stabil

Berjalan kaki secara rutin dapat membantu membakar lemak, demikian juga ketika Anda melakukan power walk. Menurut data analisis dari National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey yang dilakukan terhadap 3.388 responden mengungkapkan bahwa orang yang melakukan power walk secara rutin memiliki penurunan lingkar pinggang baik pada pria maupun wanita. Lingkar pinggang yang lebih kecil juga membantu menurunkan indeks massa tubuh (BMI), berat badan dan kadar insulin.

Menguatkan tulang

Power walking juga dapat membantu menguatkan tulang. Sebuah studi mengungkapkan melakukan power walking selama satu jam per hari dengan intensitas sedang dapat mencegah orang yang memiliki masalah sendi mengalami keparahan. Penelitian lain juga mengungkapkan bahwa power walk selama 4 jam per minggu menurunkan risiko patah tulang pada wanita di fase perimenopause.

Power walk bukan hanya bermanfaat bagi kesehatan fisik namun juga bagi kesehatan mental. Penelitian menunjukkan bahwa jalan cepat juga memiliki manfaat bagi kesehatan mental, meningkatkan keterampilan dalam pengambilan keputusan, meningkatkan daya ingat dan mencegah demensia terutama seiring bertambahnya usia. Penelitian juga menunjukkan olahraga jalan cepat dapat memperbaiki gejala kecemasan, depresi dan memperbaiki suasana hati.

Cara Melakukan Power Walking

  • Jaga punggung tetap lurus, busungkan dada dan pandangan mengarah ke depan
  • Kunci perut Anda saat bergerak
