KB suntik merupakan salah satu alat kontrasepsi yang banyak digunakan oleh para ibu. Bagi ibu yang sulit mengingat jadwal untuk minum pil KB, KB suntik bisa menjadi pilihan alat kontrasepsi yang lebih praktis. Namun seperti alat kontrasepsi lainnya, KB suntik juga memiliki kelebihan dan kekurangannya. Yuk simak ulasannya!

 

Apa Itu KB suntik?

KB suntik adalah alat kontrasepsi yang dikenal efektif untuk mencegah kehamilan. KB suntik berisi hormon estrogen atau progestin yang berfungsi menghentikan ovulasi. Biasanya suntikan dilakukan di lengan atas, bokong atau bawah perut. Berdasarkan jangka waktu penyuntikan, KB suntik terdiri dari dua jenis, yaitu:

  • KB suntik 1 bulan (Cyclofem)
  • KB suntik 3 bulan (Depo-Provera)

Dengan frekuensi suntikan tersebut, alat kontrasepsi ini cocok bagi Anda yang sering terlewat minum pil KB setiap hari. Jika digunakan dengan rutin dan tepat waktu, KB suntik dapat mencegah kehamilan hingga 99%. Namun, hormon dalam KB suntik perlu waktu beberapa hari untuk bekerja. Sebaiknya hindari berhubungan intim selama 5-7 hari setelah penyuntikan agar KB suntik bekerja secara efektif.

  

Kelebihan KB suntik

Dilansir dari Planned Parenthood, berikut ini beberapa kelebihan alat kontrasepsi KB suntik jika dibandingkan dengan alat kontrasepsi lainnya:

1. Efektif mencegah kehamilan

KB suntik baik KB suntik yang berjarak 1 atau 3 bulan sama-sama efektif untuk mencegah kehamilan asalkan dilakukan dengan tepat waktu. Jika Anda lupa atau terlambat menggunakan KB suntik, maka mungkin saja terjadi kehamilan setelah berhubungan seks. Untuk pencegahan yang lebih optimal, Anda bisa menggunakan kondom saat berhubungan seks.

2. Aman bagi ibu menyusui

KB suntik merupakan salah satu alat kontrasepsi yang aman bagi ibu menyusui. Jika Anda ingin menunda menambah anak setelah kelahiran anak pertama, KB suntik bisa menjadi pilihan yang tepat. KB suntik juga tidak menyebabkan perubahan pada jumlah ASI dan efek samping lainnya sehingga relatif aman untuk digunakan.

3. Bersifat sementara

KB suntik bersifat sementara dan bisa Anda hentikan ketika sudah mulai merencakan kehamilan berikutnya. Selain itu KB suntik juga tidak mengubah kondisi hormon secara permanen. Artinya ketika Anda berhenti menggunakan KB suntik, sistem ovulasi akan kembali normal dan meningkatkan peluang untuk hamil.

4. Dapat mengatasi beberapa masalah kesehatan

KB suntik bukan hanya bermanfaat untuk mencegah kehamilan, namun juga bisa digunakan untuk mengatasi masalah kesehatan lainnya seperti nyeri menstruasi.

 

Kekurangan KB suntik

Selain beberapa kelebihan dari KB suntik, metode pencegahan kehamilan ini juga memiliki beberapa kekurangan, yaitu:

1. Memiliki risiko terlewat

KB suntik yang dilakukan dalam rentang waktu 1 atau 3 bulan juga memiliki risiko lupa atau terlewat. Terlebih lagi KB suntik perlu dilakukan oleh bidan atau dokter sehingga tidak bisa dilakukan sewaktu-waktu secara mandiri. Jika Anda terlewat jadwal suntik, maka risiko kehamilan bisa saja terjadi.

2. Memiliki efek samping

Meskipun relatif aman, namun KB suntik memiliki sejumlah efek samping seperti muncul flek, menstruasi jadi tidak teratur bahkan beberapa Ibu tidak mengalami haid sama sekali, lalu mual dan muntah. Efek samping lain yang bisa dirasakan antara lain nyeri payudara, menambah berat badan dan depresi. Namun efek samping yang dirasakan dapat berbeda-beda pada setiap orang.

3. Butuh waktu lama untuk hamil kembali

Salah satu kekurangan KB suntik yaitu butuh waktu lama untuk kembali dalam kondisi subur. Beberapa orang membutuhkan waktu 3 hingga 10 bulan untuk mengembalikan kesuburan tubuh setelah KB suntik. Oleh karena itu, jika Anda ingin merencakan kehamilan berikutnya dalam waktu dekat, maka alat kontrasepsi ini bukan menjadi pilihan utama.
