Serumen atau kotoran telinga memiliki banyak fungsi penting bagi kesehatan telinga, salah satunya melindungi gendang telinga dan telinga bagian dalam dari air, debu, kotoran dan partikel lain yang menyebabkan iritasi dan infeksi. Kotoran telinga juga berfungsi sebagai pelumas alami, untuk menjaga kulit di dalam telinga tetap sehat.

Namun, jumlah kotoran telinga yang berlebihan dapat menyebabkan masalah, seperti gangguan pendengaran, rasa penuh, nyeri, bahkan infeksi. Inilah mengapa membersihkan kotoran telinga dan menjaga kebersihan telinga sangatlah penting.

 

Cara Menjaga Kebersihan Telinga Anak

Pada dasarnya, telinga memiliki mekanisme alami untuk membersihkan dirinya sendiri. Kotoran telinga yang berlebihan akan keluar dengan sendirinya melalui gerakan rahang saat anak mengunyah atau berbicara.

Membersihkan telinga anak tidak perlu dilakukan secara rutin jika tidak ada gejala yang mengganggu. Namun, jika terdapat penumpukan kotoran telinga yang berlebihan, hal ini dapat menyebabkan beberapa masalah sehingga Anda tetap perlu menjaga kebersihan telinganya.

Telinga anak perlu dibersihkan khususnya jika ada cairan yang keluar dari telinga yang menandakan penumpukan kotoran di telinga, anak terlihat mengalami gatal yang berlebihan, atau anak terlihat tidak nyaman dengan telinganya.

Berikut adalah cara menjaga kebersihan telinga anak:

Menggunakan kain lap basah

Anda bisa membersihkan bagian luar telinga anak dengan menggunakan kain lap basah dan sedikit air hangat. Ini dapat dilakukan saat mandi untuk membantu melunakkan kotoran telinga.

Hindari memasukkan kain atau benda lain ke saluran telinga, cukup di bagian luarnya saja.

Memiringkan kepala saat mandi

Setelah mandi, ajari anak untuk memiringkan kepala dari satu sisi ke sisi lain. Cara ini membantu mengeluarkan sisa air dan kotoran dari telinga.

Menggunakan obat tetes telinga

Untuk anak-anak yang rentan terhadap penumpukan kotoran telinga, Anda dapat menggunakan obat tetes telinga yang telah diresepkan oleh dokter. Biasanya obat tetes yang mengandung hidrogen peroksida dapat membantu melunakkan kotoran telinga sehingga kotoran tersebut melunak dan dapat lebih mudah keluar dengan sendirinya kemudian dibersihkan dengan waslap.

 

Hindari membersihkan telinga anak dengan menggunakan ear candle yang berisiko menyebabkan luka bakar dan kerusakan pada telinga. Anda juga tidak disarankan menggunakan cotton bud atau benda tajam lainnya karena dapat mendorong kotoran lebih dalam dan berisiko melukai gendang telinga.

Jika anak mengalami gejala yang menunjukkan penumpukan kotoran telinga serius, seperti gangguan pendengaran, nyeri, atau keluarnya cairan berbau tidak sedap, sebaiknya bawa anak ke dokter THT.
