Mandi susu telah lama dipercaya memiliki berbagai manfaat untuk kulit. Tradisi ini diyakini sudah lama berlangsung sejak zaman Romawi dan masih banyak dilakukan oleh masyarakat modern hingga saat ini.

 

Apa Itu Mandi Susu?

Jika biasanya mandi menggunakan air, namun seperti namanya, mandi susu adalah mandi menggunakan cairan susu. Susu yang digunakan umumnya adalah susu sapi dan kambing, namun kini banyak juga yang menggunakan susu nabati seperti susu oat atau almon.

Selain itu Anda juga dapat menggunakan buttermilk untuk mandi. Buttermilk memiliki kandungan lactic acid lebih tinggi dibandingkan susu lainnya sehingga dapat membantu proses eksfoliasi kulit tubuh. Untuk memberikan aroma yang lebih segar, Anda juga dapat menambahkan rempah atau bunga segar lainnya.

 

Manfaat Mandi Susu bagi Kesehatan dan Kecantikan

Dilansir dari Healthline, sebenarnya hingga saat ini belum banyak penelitian yang mengungkapkan manfaat mandi susu bagi kesehatan kulit. Namun susu mengandung beberapa nutrisi dan mineral yang dapat membantu menjaga kulit agar tetap sehat.

Beberapa manfaat mandi susu bagi kesehatan kulit antara lain:

1. Mengatasi Kulit Kering

Bagi Anda yang memiliki jenis kulit kering, mandi susu dipercaya dapat membantu mengatasi kulit kering. Susu mengandung protein, lemak, vitamin, dan mineral yang dapat membantu melembutkan dan mengatasi kulit kering.

Mandi susu juga dipercaya dapat mengatasi kemerahan, gatal dan peradangan akibat paparan sinar matahari. Berendam saat mandi susu selama 20 menit diyakini dapat membantu mengurangi rasa terbakar dan kulit kering karena terlalu lama terkena sinar matahari.

2. Mengatasi Eksim 

Bagi ibu yang memiliki ASI perah, susu perah tersebut dapat digunakan untuk mengatasi masalah eksim pada bayi. Sebuah penelitian mengungkapkan bahwa mengoleskan ASI ke kulit bayi yang mengalami eksim dapat membantu meredakan gejala eksim.

Meskipun demikian, belum ada penelitian yang menyebutkan mandi ASI dapat secara efektif mengatasi eksim. Jika si kecil mengalami eksim, maka sebaiknya konsultasikan ke dokter untuk mendapat penanganan.

3. Mengatasi Psoriasis

Selain eksim, mandi susu juga dipercaya dapat meredakan gejala psoriasis seperti kulit gatal dan pecah-pecah. Namun seperti halnya manfaat mandi susu bagi penderita eksim, saat ini belum banyak penelitian yang menyebutkan manfaat mandi susu untuk mengatasi psoriasis.

Bila Anda ingin mengatasi psoriasis dengan mandi susu sebaiknya konsultasikan terlebih dahulu ke dokter. 

4. Menghaluskan Kulit

Mandi susu, terutama jika Anda menggunakan buttermilk yang mengandung AHA dipercaya dapat membuat kulit lebih kenyal dan halus. Kandungan lemak dan protein dalam susu akan menyerap masuk ke dalam kulit dan membuatnya lebih lembut.

Sedangkan kandungan AHA yang bersifat sebagai eksfoliator akan mengangkat sel kulit mati. Hasilnya, kulit bukan hanya tampak lebih lembut namun juga lebih cerah dan halus. 

 

Cara Melakukan Mandi Susu di Rumah

Mandi susu dapat Anda lakukan sendiri di rumah. Caranya mudah, Anda hanya perlu menuangkan susu sebanyak 1-2 cangkir ke dalam bak yang sudah diisi dengan air. Pilih susu yang tidak menggunakan gula atau pemanis karena akan membuat tubuh terasa lengket.

Jika Anda menggunakan susu bubuk khusus untuk mandi, tuangkan sepertiga hingga dua pertiga cangkir berisi susu bubuk ke dalam bak berisi air. Anda juga dapat menambahkan garam Epsom atau minyak esensial untuk membuat tubuh menjadi lebih rileks.

Berendamlah dalam larutan susu selama 8-10 menit agar kulit tidak terasa kering. Setelah berendam, bilas badan hingga bersih lalu keringkan dengan handuk. Oleskan pelemebap untuk mengunci kadar air dalam kulit sehingga membuat kulit tetap lembap.

 

Meskipun mandi susu dapat membuat kulit lebih lembut dan meredakan beberapa masalah kulit namun masih diperlukan penelitian lebih lanjut mengenai manfaat mandi susu. Hentikan mandi susu jika menunjukkan tanda iritasi seperti kulit kemerahan atau gatal. Apabila Anda memiliki masalah kulit, sebaiknya periksakan ke dokter agar mendapat penanganan yang sesuai.
