Permintaan untuk berpuasa terlebih dahulu sebelum melakukan pemeriksaan darah adalah hal yang umum. Anda akan diminta untuk tidak makan dan minum selama beberapa jam, terkecuali mungkin minum air putih.

Biasanya puasa sebelum melakukan pemeriksaan darah dilakukan 8 hingga 12 jam lamanya, terutama bila tes dilakukan di pagi hari. Artinya setelah bangun tidur, Anda tidak diijinkan untuk makan dan minum dan segera pergi ke klinik atau laboratorium untuk diambil sampel darahnya.

 

Jenis Tes yang Mengharuskan Berpuasa Sebelum Cek Darah

Tidak semua cek darah mengharuskan Anda untuk berpuasa. Hanya beberapa jenis pemeriksaan darah tertentu saja yang memang membutuhkan puasa agar memberikan hasil pemeriksaan yang akurat.

Umumnya Anda harus berpuasa terlebih dahulu saat menjalani beberapa jenis tes berikut:

  • Tes kadar gula darah puasa - sebelum menjalani tes gula darah puasa, Anda akan diminta berpuasa selama 8 jam untuk mengukur kadar gula darah puasa
  • Tes panel lipid - tes ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui kadar kolesterol di dalam darah. Tingkat kolesterol yang tinggi berisiko menyebabkan penyakit jantung dan serangan stroke. Anda akan diminta berpuasa sekitar 9-12 jam sebelum menjalani tes ini.
  • Tes panel metabolisme - tes ini adalah bagian dari pemeriksaan rutin di mana Anda akan mendapatkan pemeriksaan kadar gula, elektrolit tubuh, keseimbangan cairan tubuh dan juga fungsi ginjal. Anda akan diminta berpuasa sekitar 10-12 jam sebelum menjalani tes ini.
  • Tes vitamin B12 - tes ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui berapa kadar vitamin B12 di dalam darah Anda. Biasanya tes ini digunakan untuk mendiagnosis anemia tertentu atau problem kesehatan lain. Anda akan diminta berpuasa sekitar 6-8 jam sebelum menjalani tes ini.
  • Tes kadar zat besi - tes ini digunakan untuk mengetahui kadar zat besi di dalam tubuh, apakah terlalu rendah atau terlalu tinggi. Anda akan diminta berpuasa selama 12 jam sebelum menjalani tes ini.
  • Gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT) - tes ini menunjukkan kadar enzim GGT yang dapat mengindikasikan penyakit liver, problem empedu, dan permasalahan lain terkait penyalahgunaan alkohol. Anda akan diminta berpuasa setidaknya selama 8 jam sebelum menjalani tes ini.

 

Mengapa harus Berpuasa Sebelum Menjalani Tes?

Secara umum, Anda diminta berpuasa sekitar 8-12 jam sebelum menjalani pemeriksaan. Artinya tidak boleh ada makanan dan minuman yang masuk ke dalam tubuh. Anda mungkin hanya diijinkan mengonsumsi air putih saja selama berpuasa dan tidak ada jenis makanan apapun yang boleh masuk ke dalam tubuh.

Jika Anda tidak sengaja makan atau minum selama jadwal puasa, maka Anda mungkin harus mengatur ulang jadwal tes dan tidak boleh melanjutkan tes di hari itu.

Berpuasa sebelum menjalani pemeriksaan darah sangat penting untuk menghasilkan pemeriksaan yang akurat. Nutrisi dalam makanan maupun minuman akan masuk ke aliran darah dan dapat mengubah hal-hal yang seharusnya diukur dengan tes. Nutrisi tersebut bisa mengacaukan hasil tes dan menyebabkan pembacaan tes menjadi tidak akurat sesuai dengan yang dibutuhkan.

Misalnya ketika Anda makan atau minum sebelum menjalani tes gula darah puasa, yang menyebabkan kadar gula darah Anda tinggi. Akibatnya diagnosis yang dibuat oleh dokter bisa salah, terutama bila Anda tidak mengaku pada dokter bahwa Anda makan atau minum selama seharusnya berpuasa.

Jadi, patuhi saja saran dari dokter untuk berpuasa sebelum menjalani tes darah seperti jenis tes di atas. Apabila memang Anda lupa, maka sebaiknya jadwalkan ulang tes yang harus diambil.
