Apa Itu Menstrual Cup?

Menstrual cup adalah produk kebersihan wanita yang digunakan untuk menampung darah menstruasi. Alat ini berbentuk seperti lonceng atau wadah dengan corong. Menstrual cup terbuat dari karet atau silikon yang fleksibel sehingga mudah dimasukkan ke dalam vagina.

Menstrual cup menjadi pilihan banyak wanita selama menstruasi karena dapat digunakan kembali. Anda tinggal mengeluarkan dan mengosongkan, mencuci dan memasangnya kembali selama periode menstruasi. Menstrual cup bisa dipakai sampai 12 jam.

Walaupun digunakan dengan cara dimasukkan ke dalam vagina, Anda tidak perlu takut alat akan tersangkut atau terlepas. Otot-otot di dalam vagina dapat menahannya, bahkan tanpa Anda sadari. Bila digunakan dengan benar, Anda tidak akan merasakan menstrual cup sampai Anda mengeluarkannya.

Hal-Hal yang Perlu Dipertimbangkan Sebelum Menggunakan Menstrual Cup

Ada beragam merk menstrual cup. Jika Anda tertarik menggunakannya, maka sebaiknya diskusikan dengan dokter kandungan dan baca setiap ulasan dari merek yang berbeda-beda.

Ada beberapa hal yang perlu dipertimbangkan sebelum menggunakan menstrual cup, di antaranya:

  • Usia Anda
  • Panjang serviks (leher rahim)
  • Aliran darah menstruasi deras atau tidak 
  • Kapasitas menstrual cup 
  • Kekuatan otot panggul
  • Riwayat melahirkan secara normal

Wanita berusia di bawah 30 tahun atau yang belum pernah melahirkan secara normal disarankan memakai menstrual cup yang berukuran kecil. Ukuran yang lebih besar direkomendasikan untuk wanita berusia di atas 30 tahun, yang pernah melahirkan melalui vagina atau yang memiliki aliran darah menstruasi yang deras.

 

Kelebihan Menstrual Cup 

  • Ramah lingkungan dan harga terjangkau.
  • Dapat digunakan lebih lama dari produk menstruasi lainnya.
  • Menampung lebih banyak darah.
  • Meminimalkan bau tak sedap.
  • Aman digunakan saat berhubungan intim ketika sedang haid.

 

Kekurangan Menstrual Cup

  • Tidak mudah menemukan ukuran yang benar-benar pas sehingga harus mencoba beberapa ukuran terlebih dahulu.
  • Terkadang tidak mudah untuk memasangnya dengan benar dan nyaman.
  • Saat melepaskan ada kemungkinan darah tumpah dan mengotori pakaian dalam atau lantai.
  • Adanya risiko alergi saat menggunakan menstrual cup berbahan lateks.
  • Adanya risiko infeksi apabila tidak dibersihkan dengan benar.

Cara Memasang Menstrual Cup

Menstrual cup aman digunakan selama 6-12 jam, tergantung pada cuaca dan banyaknya aliran darah menstruasi. Ada beberapa cara untuk memasang menstrual cup, yang bisa Anda lihat di sini:

  • Cuci tangan terlebih dahulu sebelum memasang menstrual cup.
  • Aplikasikan pelumas atau water-based lubricant di tepi cup untuk memudahkan pemasangan.
  • Lipat menstrual cup menjadi dua, pegang dengan satu tangan dengan pinggiran menghadap ke atas.
  • Masukkan cup ke dalam vagina tanpa harus menggunakan aplikator seperti tampon.
  • Menstrual cup harus diletakkan beberapa cm di bawah serviks. Setelah terpasang, putar cup di dalam vagina agar tersegel dengan baik dan tidak bocor.

Jika menstrual cup dipasang dengan benar, maka Anda tidak akan merasakan sesuatu yang mengganjal. Anda juga bisa bergerak, melompat, duduk, berdiri dan melakukan aktivitas lain tanpa membuat menstrual cup jatuh.
