Mie instan merupakan makanan yang menjadi pilihan saat kelaparan malam hari maupun di tengan kesibukan. Mie instan tersedia dalam bentuk mie kering yang dilengkapi bumbu siap konsumsi di dalam kemasan satuan. Proses pengolahan mie instan sendiri terbilang mudah, hanya dengan merebus mie dalam air mendidih dan mencampurnya dengan bumbu yang tersedia. Akan tetapi di balik praktis dan rasanya yang enak, ternyata mie instan berbahaya jika dikonsumsi terlalu sering.

Mie instan disebut sebagai makanan yang tidah sehat karena memiliki kandungan karbohidrat, lemak dan garam yang tinggi. Sedangkan kebutuhan tubuh terhadap protein, serat, vitamin dan mineral tidak tercukupi hanya dengan mengonsumsi mie instan. Hal ini berdampak pada kurangnya asupan nutrisi dalam tubuh. 

Konsumsi mie instan berlebihan menimbulkan risiko terjadinya sindrom metabolik, yaitu sebuah kondisi yang meningkatkan risiko terserang penyakit jantung, stroke dan diabetes. Selain itu, beberapa risiko dan bahaya kesehatan lainnya adalah:

  • Gangguan pencernaan, mie instan tidak mudah dicerna sehingga menyebabkan kerja sistem saluran cerna menjadi lebih berat. 
  • Tekanan darah tinggi yang disebabkan karena bumbu yang digunakan dalam mie instan memiliki kandungan garam atau natrium yang tinggi, sekitar 890mg. 
  • Penyakit jantung, mie instan mengandung MSG dan natrium yang tinggi yang tidak hanya menyebabkan tekanan darah tinggi, tetapi memicu berbagai gangguan pada jantung.
  • Gangguan ginjal, kandungan garam yang tinggi dalam mie instan dapat berdampak pada terganggunya fungsi ginjal, terutama jika dikonsumsi dalam jumlah yang banyak dan cukup sering.

Mengingat kandungan nutrisi dan bahaya mie instan, maka ada baiknya mengurangi konsumsi mie instan. Namun, jika ingin mengonsumsi mie instan sekali-kali, ada beberapa cara agar nilai nutrisi dalam sajian mie instan lebih baik dan menjadi lebih sehat. Saat membuat mie instan, tambahkanlah telur atau ayam sebagai sumber protein hewani, beberapa sayur seperti wortel, sawi ataupun brokoli. Kemudian jangan gunakan seluruh bumbu mie instan yang tersedia. Gunakan hanya setengah saja dari takaran guna untuk mengurangi jumlah garam dan MSG yang dikonsumsi. Jangan lupa untuk selalu menjaga kesehatan tubuh dengan berolahraga secara rutin dan tidak merokok. 

Jika Anda sering makan mie instan, sebaiknya mulai kurangi konsumsinya agar terhindar dari dampak buruk mie instan terhadap kesehatan.
