Membacakan buku cerita untuk balita berbeda dengan mengajak anak yang berusia lebih besar membaca buku. Buku untuk anak balita memiliki gambar yang berukuran lebih besar dan dipenuhi warna, dengan susunan kata yang lebih singkat dan sederhana.

Membacakan buku cerita untuk anak balita sebaiknya dilakukan secara rutin, terutama sebelum tidur siang atau tidur di malam hari. Anda bisa membacakan sambil memeluk untuk membangun kedekatan dan kenyamanan.

Selain itu, beberapa tips berikut akan berguna bagi Anda:

  • Baca buku apa pun yang diminta balita walaupun itu adalah buku yang sama. Balita mungkin meminta dibacakan buku yang sama selama berminggu-minggu dan ini adalah hal yang normal
  • Baca dengan perlahan agar si kecil memahami cerita
  • Anda bisa membaca dengan lebih ekspresif menggunakan suara yang berbeda untuk setiap karakter
  • Manfaatkan boneka jari sebagai alat peraga saat membacakannya cerita
  • Tunjukkan makna yang berbeda-beda dari setiap gambar yang ada, dan namai gambar tesebut
  • Ajukan pertanyaan untuk melatih anak berpikir tentang cerita
  • Anda bisa menggunakan nama diri sendiri dan anak sebagai tokoh di dalam cerita sehingga membaca menjadi menyenangkan
