Sering sekali kita mendengar konsumsi daging kambing dapat menyebabkan tekanan darah tinggi atau hipertensi, namun faktanya tidak seperti itu. Umumnya daging merah memiliki kandungan lemak jenuh yang tinggi, sehingga dapat meningkatkan kadar kolesterol dalam darah. Daging kambing sendiri memiliki lemak jenuh yang lebih rendah jika dibandingkan dengan daging sapi bahkan ayam. Seporsi daging kambing hanya memiliki 2,6 gram lemak, sementara daging sapi memiliki 7,9 gram lemak dan ayam memiliki 6,3 gram lemak. 

Yang dapat menyebabkan darah tinggi atau hipertensi bukanlah dagingnya namun ada beberapa sebab yang dapat menyebabkan hipertensi. 

  • Penggunaan garam secara berlebihan dalam masakan, sehingga dapat menimbulkan terjadinya tekanan darah tinggi
  • Cara pengolahan seperti menggoreng daging kambing dengan minyak jenuh dapat berkontribusi terhadap risiko penyakit sistem jantung dan pembuluh darah

Maka dari itu, perhatikan cara pengolahan daging kambing dengan cara merebus, tumis atau dipanggang dan hindari menggoreng karena daging akan menyerap minyak lebih banyak. Makanlah daging kambing hanya satu porsi atau seukuran telapak tangan, hindari bagian daging yang banyak lemak atau gajihnya karena bagian tersebut memiliki lemak jenuh yang tinggi. Yang paling penting jangan mengonsumsi daging secara berlebihan dan imbangi dengan nutrisi lain seperti sayur dan buah-buahan. 

 

Untuk penderita tekanan darah tinggi atau hipertensi, ada baiknya konsumsi garam dibatasi karena terlalu banyak konsumsi garam atau makanan yang mengandung garam dapat meningkatkan risiko hipertensi bahkan gangguan pada jantung. Semakin tinggi kadar natrium dalam darah, semakin tinggi juga volume darah dalam pembuluh darah sehingga menyebabkan jantung bekerja lebih keras. Semakin lama, hal ini menyebabkan tekanan pada pembuluh darah meningkat. Kondisi ini juga akan memberi beban ekstra pada organ lainnya. 

Diet yang direkomendasikan bagi penderita hipertensi adalah Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH). Diet ini menganjurkan konsumsi buah, sayuran, dan beberapa jenis biji-bijian daripada mengonsumsi makanan tinggi lemak jenuh, produk dengan pemanis buatan, dan makanan dengan kadar gula tinggi. Berdasarkan program DASH, konsumsi garam dianjurkan <2,3 gram per hari untuk mengontrol tekanan darah.
