Salicylic acid atau asam salisilat adalah senyawa yang saat ini banyak digunakan sebagai bahan aktif dalam produk perawatan kulit. Kandungan salicylic acid banyak dijumpai pada produk eksfoliasi dan produk untuk mengatasi jerawat.

Beberapa manfaat salicylic acid bagi kulit antara lain:

  • Mengangkat sel-sel kulit mati. Salicylic acid mendorong pergantian sel dan membantu mengelupas sel kulit mati sehingga memperbaiki kulit kusam dan teksturnya. 
  • Membersihkan pori-pori. Kemampuan salicylic acid yang larut dalam minyak, membuatnya mampu menembus pori-pori sehingga membersihkan pori-pori dengan baik dan mencegah timbulnya komedo. 
  • Menghilangkan minyak berlebih. Kemampuan salicylic acid menembus permukaan kulit untuk membersihkan sebum berlebih dari pori-pori juga membantu mengurangi minyak berlebih.
  • Mengendalikan jerawat. Salicylic acid membantu membersihkan kelebihan minyak sehingga mengurangi peradangan dan risiko munculnya jerawat.
  • Menyamarkan pori-pori: Sebagai produk astringen, asam salisilat dapat mengencangkan kulit, sehingga mengurangi tampilan pori-pori.

Bolehkah Menggunakan Salicylic Acid Setiap Hari?

Salicylic acid dapat dijumpai dalam berbagai produk seperti toner, gel, sabun muka, atau serum. Jika Anda menggunakan salicylic acid untuk penanganan jerawat, Anda perlu memerhatikan dosis dan frekuensi pemakaian. Tergantung keparahan jerawat yang Anda alami, beberapa produk bisa Anda gunakan setiap hari atau 1-2 hari sekali. 

Secara umum, aturan penggunaan salicylic acid adalah sebagai berikut:

  • Gel kadar 2–7% bisa digunakan sekali sehari
  • Losion dengan kadar 2% bisa digunakan 1–3 kali sehari
  • Salep dengan kadar 3% bisa digunakan sesuai kebutuhan
  • Toner pads dengan kadar  0,5–2% bisa digunakan 1–3 kali sehari
  • Sabun dengan kandungan 0,5–3% bisa digunakan sesuai kebutuhan
  • Toner dengan kandungan 0,5–2% bisa digunakan 1–3 kali sehari

Untuk amannya, gunakan salicylic acid sesuai anjuran pemakaian, atau sesuai resep dokter. Jika mengalami tanda-tanda iritasi sebaiknya hentikan pemakaian hingga tanda iritasi mereda.

Tips Aman Menggunakan Salicylic Acid

Produk salicylic acid umumnya aman digunakan dan memiliki efek samping minimal jika Anda menggunakannya sesuai ketentuan. Beberapa efek samping yang dapat muncul antara lain: 

  • Kulit terasa kering
  • Iritasi
  • Kemerahan pada kulit
  • Kulit terasa hangat
  • Perih

Sebelum menggunakan salicylic acid Anda bisa melakukan patch test dengan mengoleskan bahan aktif ini di area rahang dan melihat reaksinya. Jika muncul reaksi kemerahan, gatal, atau kering yang mengganggu sebaiknya hentikan pemakaian. 

Cara paling aman menggunakan salicylic acid adalah menggunakannya sesuai aturan pemakaian atau resep dokter. Hal lain yang perlu diperhatikan saat menggunakan salicylic acid antara lain:

  • Hindari mengoleskan salicylic acid di area mata, mulut, atau hidung 
  • Jangan menelan salicylic acid
  • Hindari mengoleskan salicylic acid ke kulit yang rusak, atau terinfeksi
  • Jangan menggabungkan produk salicylic acid dengan produk yang bersifat abrasif seperti tretinoin atau benzoil peroksida karena dapat memicu iritasi
