Minyak ikan kod merupakan salah satu jenis suplemen minyak ikan yang banyak dikonsumsi di masyarakat. Seperti minyak ikan pada umumnya, minyak ikan kod kaya akan asam lemak omega-3 yang baik untuk kesehatan otak. Minyak ikan kod merupakan suplementasi bergizi tinggi yang mampu mencukupi 90% kebutuhan vitamin A dan vitamin D dalam tubuh. Vitamin A memiliki peranan penting dalam tubuh di antranya menjaga kesehatan mata, kulit dan fungsi otak.

 

Apakah Minyak Ikan Kod Membuat Anak Lebih Pintar?

Minyak ikan kod telah lama dipercaya sebagai suplemen yang baik bagi kesehatan otak anak. Hal ini disebabkan kandungan asam lemak omega-3 yang dibutuhkan oleh tubuh. Sayangnya tubuh tidak dapat memproduksi sendiri asam lemak omega-3, sehingga tubuh tetap membutuhkan asupan suplemen asam lemak omega-3 dari luar. Banyak yang beranggapan bahwa dengan mengonsumsi minyak ikan dapat membuat anak menjadi pintar, namun pemahaman ini perlu diluruskan.

Belum ada penelitian yang menyebutkan bahwa mengonsumsi minyak ikan kod terbukti membuat anak menjadi lebih pintar. Namun, dilansir dari Healthline, kandungan asam lemak omega-3 pada minyak ikan terbukti meningkatkan fungsi otak sehingga mendukung kegiatan belajar anak.

Sebuah penelitian mengungkapkan, kandungan DHA dan EPA penting untuk perkembangan sel saraf otak. Selain itu DHA dan EPA juga bermanfaat melindungi jaringan saraf dari stres. Penelitian lain mengungkapkan bahwa anak yang mengonsumsi asam lemak omega-3 memiliki kemampuan belajar dan mengingat yang lebih baik.

Manfaat menginsumsi asam lemak omega-3 bukan hanya dirasakan di masa anak-anak namun juga ketika dewasa. Orang yang rutin mengonsumsi asam lemak omega-3 memiliki risiko lebih rendah mengalami penyakit Alzheimer atau demensia. Selain itu, orang dewasa yang menerapkan pola makan sehat kaya akan asam lemak omega-3 juga terbukti memiliki risiko lebih rendah mengalami penurunan kemampuan kognitif di usia tua.

Meskipun mengonsumsi minyak ikan baik untuk kesehatan otak, namun dilansir dari Everyday Health, bukan berarti hal ini otomatis membuat anak-anak menjadi lebih pintar. Mengonsumsi minyak ikan tidak akan membuat Anda lebih pintar atau lebih mudah mengingat sesuatu, terlebih jika Anda sudah memiliki asupan omega-3 yang cukup. Kepintaran anak dipengaruhi oleh banyak hal dan minyak ikan bukan satu-satunya faktor yang membuat si kecil menjadi pintar.

 

Perlukah Mengonsumsi Minyak Ikan Kod?

Pemberian minyak ikan pada anak bertujuan untuk memenuhi kebutuhan asam lemak omega-3 dalam tubuh. Minyak ikan bisa diberikan pada anak-anak terutama jika anak-anak tidak suka makan ikan. Selain dari minyak ikan kod, makanan yang kaya akan asam lemak omega-3 di antaranya:

  • Ikan yang kaya lemak seperti salmon dan tuna
  • Kacang dan biji-bijian
  • Minyak nabati seperti minyak kedelai, minyak kanola

Minyak ikan kod memiliki berbagai khasiat bagi tumbuh kembang anak termasuk kesehatan otak. Namun minyak ikan kod tidak otomatis membuat anak menjadi lebih pintar dan termasuk suplementasi yang wajib diberikan pada anak.
