Apa Itu Tummy Time?

Tummy time adalah latihan memosisikan bayi dalam posisi tengkurap ketika bayi dalam keadaan terjaga. Latihan ini mirip dengan latihan olahraga pada bayi dimana bayi perlu melakukannya setiap hari selama beberapa menit sekali.

Pada bayi yang berusia di bawah 5-6 bulan, latihan tummy time dapat dilakukan sekitar 1-2 menit sebagai awalan. Seiring dengan perkembangan bayi dan otot-otot leher, punggung dan perut yang semakin kuat maka Anda dapat menambah durasi latihan tengkurap.

Dilansir dari Cleveland Clinic, berikut ini sejumlah manfaat tummy time bagi bayi:

1. Membantu perkembangan kemampuan motorik

Ketika anak tengkurap, ia akan menggerakkan otot-otot yang membantunya mendongakkan kepala, berguling dan merangkak. Latihan ini akan membantu anak untuk mengembangkan otot inti tubuh dan melatih kekuatan punggung, leher dan lengan anak. Sebuah studi mengungkapkan latihan tengkurap dapat membantu penundaan perkembangan motorik anak.

 

2. Mengurangi risiko kelainan pertumbuhan tulang tengkorak

Bayi menghabiskan posisinya dengan tidur telentang yang dapat memengaruhi perubahan bentuk tengkorak menjadi peyang atau flat head syndrome. Dengan sering mengajak anak untuk latihan tengkurap, kondisi ini dapat membantu anak mengurangi risiko perubahan bentuk tengkorak.

Meskipun kepala peyang tidak berbahaya, namun pada beberapa kasus perubahan bentuk kepala bayi dapat mengindikasikan kondisi serius seprti kraniosynostosis. Jika si kecil menunjukkan gejala tersebut sebaiknya periksakan ke dokter.

 

3. Meningkatkan perkembangan motorik dan sensorik

Posisi tengkurap memudahkan bayi untuk melihat lingkungan sekitar dari sudut pandang dan posisi lainnya. Pada posisi tengkurap, bayi akan belajar menggerakkan lengan dan kaki untuk bergerak, hal ini akan meningkatkan kemampuan motorik dan sensorik anak.

 

4. Meningkatkan kesempatan untuk bonding dengan orang tua

Saat anak latihan tengkurap sebaiknya didampingi oleh orang tua, anggota keluarga lainnya atau orang dewasa lainnya. Momen ini dapat meningkatkan momen bonding antara orang tua dan anak. Ketika latihan tummy time, orang tua juga dapat mengajak anak berinteraksi atau bercanda.

Bagaimana Cara Melakukan Tummy Time pada Bayi?

Cara melakukan tummy time dapat disesuaikan dengan usia anak. Berikut ini perbedaan cara melakukan tummy time pada bayi baru lahir dengan bayi yang berusia lebih besar:

Pada bayi baru lahir

Anda dapat melakukan tummy time pada bayi baru lahir ketika mengganti popok atau saat mandi. Mulailah bayi baru lahir dengan posisi tengkurap dengan meletakkannya di dada Anda atau di pangkuan Anda selama beberapa menit setiap kali, dua atau tiga kali sehari. Sambil berbaring tengkurap, bayi bisa berlatih mengangkat kepala dan memperkuat otot leher dan bahu. Saat bayi sudah mulai kuat terbiasa, Anda bisa melakukannya sedikit lebih lama.

 

Pada bayi berusia lebih besar

Letakkan selimut di area kosong di lantai atau kasur. Tengkurapkan bayi di atas selimut selama 3–5 menit sebagai latihan awal, lakukan ini selama beberapa kali setiap hari.

Si kecil mungkin akan rewel dan frustrasi dalam posisi ini namun sebaiknya pertahankan posisi ini selama beberapa saat. Saat bayi sudah mulai terbiasa, taruh si kecil lebih sering atau untuk waktu yang lebih lama. Para ahli merekomendasikan agar bayi latihan tummy time hingga sekitar 1 jam per hari ketika mereka sudah berusia 3 bulan.
