Menyusui adalah salah satu cara paling efektif untuk memastikan kesehatan dan kelangsungan hidup anak. WHO merekomendasikan agar bayi disusui secara eksklusif selama 6 bulan, dan dilanjutkan hingga bayi berusia 2 tahun. Namun perlu disadari bahwa 4-6 minggu pertama menyusui bagi ibu baru adalah saat-saat kritis, paling banyak drama dan air mata. Perubahan jam tidur, kelelahan fisik, perubahan rutinitas seringkali membuat Anda kewalahan dan khawatir produksi ASI tak cukup bagi bayi.

Anda bisa meredakan sejenak khawatiran yang dirasakan, karena tidak semua ibu memiliki produksi ASI yang berlimpah pasca persalinan. Sebenarnya, produksi ASI dapat meningkat setiap harinya, terutama bila Anda tahu cara alami untuk meningkatkannya.

Berikut adalah beberapa metode alami yang bisa Anda coba untuk meningkatkan produksi ASI:

Jangan Berhenti Menyusui

Rasa khawatir bahwa ASI tidak cukup itu wajar, namun bayi baru lahir tidak membutuhkan terlalu banyak ASI. Jadi, tetap berikan ASI sampai bayi melepas puting sendiri.

Produksi ASI secara alami akan meningkat seiring dengan hisapan mulut bayi yang dapat memicu hormon untuk memproduksi lebih banyak ASI. Semakin sering Anda menyusui, maka semakin meningkatkan volume ASI Anda.

 

Lanjutkan Dengan Pumping

Ada banyak cara untuk meningkatkan produksi ASI, salah satunya adalah dengan memompa ASI dan menyimpannya dalam kantong ASI.

Kapan saat yang tepat memompa ASI?

  • Ketika ASI masih terasa ada dan tidak habis diminum bayi
  • Ketika bayi masih tidur
  • Ketika bayi minum ASIP

 

Biarkan Bayi Minum di Kedua Payudara

Jangan hanya berhenti pada satu payudara saja, tawarkan payudara lain apabila bayi masih tampak haus, sebelumnya pastikan payudara dalam kondisi kosong ketika menyodorkan payudara yang lain. Stimulasi ini akan meningkatkan produksi ASI baik di payudara kiri maupun kanan.

 

Pastikan Perlekatannya Benar

Ketika perlekatannya salah, bayi tidak dapat minum ASI dengan benar, sehingga dapat menyebabkan produksi ASI menurun. Selain itu, luka lecet pada puting mungkin juga akan muncul dan membuat Anda jadi merasa tidak nyaman. Atur posisi bayi terlebih dahulu, pastikan seluruh bagian puting masuk ke dalam mulut bayi dan bagian areolanya yang dihisap.

Jika Anda tidak merasa yakin apakah posisi menyusui dan perlekatan Anda benar, Anda bisa melakukan konsultasi dengan konsultan ASI atau dokter Anda.

 

Perubahan Gaya Hidup

Beberapa gaya hidup dapat memengaruhi produksi ASI, antara lain merokok, mengonsumsi pil KB, stres dan kelelahan. Beberapa perubahan rutinitas mungkin perlu Anda sesuaikan lagi untuk memperbaiki produksi ASI. Di minggu-minggu pertama, Anda bisa mengikuti ritme bayi, beristirahatlah ketika bayi tidur sehingga Anda juga memiliki waktu untuk memulihkan tenaga.

 

Skin to Skin

Kontak skin to skin memberikan manfaat yang besar tak hanya soal menyusui, namun juga membangun kedekatan emosi dengan bayi. Penelitian juga menunjukkan bahwa menyusui dengan teknik skin to skin membuat bayi jadi ingin menyusu lebih lama sehingga produksi ASI-pun ikut meningkat.

 

Hindari Penggunaan Empeng

Penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan empeng membuat bayi jadi malas menyusu dan meningkatkan risiko bingung puting. Hindari memberikan empeng pada bayi baru lahir dan biarkan tangisannya menggema saat menunjukkan rasa hausnya.

 

Makan Makanan Bergizi

Menyusui dapat menguras energi. Untuk mengembalikan energi dan memaksimalkan produksi ASI, cukupi kebutuhan gizi dengan makanan yang dapat meningkatkan produksi ASI seperti oatmeal, sayuran hijau, kacang almond, dan lain sebagainya.

 

Cukupi Kebutuhan Cairan Tubuh

Karena 90% ASI adalah air, maka pastikan tubuh mendapatkan cukup cairan. Tak harus berasal dari air putih, Anda juga bisa mendapatkan sumber cairan lewat susu, jus buah, atau makanan berkuah.

Selain tips di atas, sangatlah penting untuk menjaga pikiran tetap tenang dan bahagia agar dapat membantu meningkatkan produksi ASI. Ubah lingkungan menyusui menjadi lingkungan yang nyaman dan tenang sehingga Anda dapat menikmati momen menyusui bayi Anda.
