Tampon, pembalut dan menstrual cup memiliki fungsi yang sama. Mereka sama-sama digunakan untuk menampung darah menstruasi yang keluar selama haid. Mana yang lebih baik di antaranya, tampon, pembalut atau menstrual cup?

 

Perbedaan Tampon, Pembalut dan Menstrual Cup

Ada banyak pilihan alat yang bisa digunakan untuk menampung darah menstruasi. Ada tampon, pembalut dan juga menstrual cup. Masing-masing memiliki kegunaan yang sama namun cara pemakaian yang berbeda.

Material bahan dari masing-masing alat tersebut berbeda. Berdasarkan bahan, kelebihan dan kekurangan, Anda perlu mempertimbangkan mana yang terbaik untuk Anda.

Tampon mirip seperti sumbat kecil yang terbuat dari kapas khusus dengan tali panjang, yang dimasukkan ke dalam vagina untuk menyerap darah menstruasi. Beberapa tampon dilengkapi dengan aplikator atau alat bantu untuk memudahkan pemasangannya.

Pembalut mungkin yang lebih familiar bagi Anda. Bahan tipis dari lapisan kain ini ditempelkan di pakaian dalam untuk menyerap darah menstruasi. Ukurannya pembalut berbeda-beda. Menstrual cup memiliki bentuk seperti lonceng atau mangkuk kecil. Menstrual cup biasanya terbuat dari karet, silikon atau plastik lunak. Alat ini dimasukkan ke dalam vagina untuk menampung darah menstruasi.

Mana yang Lebih Baik, Tampon, Pembalut atau Menstrual Cup?

Baik tampon, pembalut dan juga menstrual cup memiliki kelebihan dan kekurangan masing-masing. Tidak ada yang lebih baik, karena penggunaannya disesuaikan dengan kebutuhan Anda.

Misalnya saat sedang haid dan ingin berenang, menstrual cup bisa menjadi pilihan Anda. Menstrual cup dapat menampung darah menstruasi selagi Anda berenang. Sedangkan di malam hari, Anda mungkin terlelap dan tidak bisa membuang darah di menstrual cup secara berkala, mungkin Anda bisa menggunakan pembalut di kala tidur.

Anda juga perlu memilih mana yang cocok dengan kondisi dan tidak menyebabkan iritasi atau infeksi.

 

Cara Menggunakan Tampon yang Benar

Sama seperti menstrual cup, tampon tersedia dalam berbagai ukuran. Ukuran tampon memiliki daya serap yang berbeda-beda, ada yang ringan, berukuran biasa dan besar.

Untuk menggunakannya, ikuti beberapa langkah berikut:

  • Cuci tangan sebelum memasukkan tampon. Anda lalu bisa mencari posisi yang nyaman, seperti jongkok, mengangkat satu tungkai, atau duduk mengangkang di toilet.
  • Cobalah untuk relaks agar tampon bisa lebih mudah dimasukkan.
  • Ada beberapa produk tampon yang dikemas bersama aplikator untuk memudahkan pemakaian. Anda bisa memberi pelumas pada ujung tampon atau aplikator.
  • Masukkan tampon ke dalam vagina dengan aplikator atau jari, aplikator kemudian bisa dilepas dan dibuang. Tampon memiliki tali yang bisa Anda biarkan bergantung di vagina.
  • Disarankan untuk mengganti tampon setiap 4-8 jam. Jangan menggunakan tampon lebih dari 8 jam.
  • Saat mau membuangnya, Anda bisa membungkus dengan kertas toilet dan membuang di tempat sampah. Hindari membuang di dalam closet agar tidak menyebabkan toilet tersumbat.

 

Cara Menggunakan Pembalut yang Benar

Pembalut juga hadir dalam berbagai ukuran. Ada yang reguler, 29 cm, 30 cm, 33 cm, dan 35 cm. Ada pula yang bersayap dan tidak bersayap. Desain pembalut sedemikian rupa membantu penyerapannya agar darah menstruasi tidak mudah bocor.

  • Cara menggunakan pembalut adalah dengan membuka kertas perekatnya, kemudian menempelkan pembalut pada pakaian dalam.
  • American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists merekomendasikan pergantian pembalut setiap 4-8 jam sekali, tergantung pada banyaknya volume darah haid.
  • Bungkus pembalut dengan kertas toilet atau dimasukkan ke plastik sebelum membuangnya di tempat sampah.

Cara Menggunakan Menstrual Cup yang Benar

  • Cuci tangan terlebih dahulu. Sama seperti saat memasukkan tampon, Anda bisa mencari posisi yang nyaman, seperti jongkok, mengangkat satu tungkai, atau duduk mengangkang di toilet.
  • Berikan sedikit air, pelumas atau water-based lubricant pada di tepi menstrual cup untuk mempermudah memasukkannya.
  • Lipat menstrual cup dengan satu tangan kemudian masukkan ke dalam vagina.
  • Perhatikan instruksi pada kemasan produk, ada beberapa cup yang perlu dimasukkan di dekat serviks (leher rahim), ada juga yang bisa dimasukkan di bagian bawah vagina.
  • Putar cup saat sudah masuk agar bisa terbuka sepenuhnya. Jika dimasukkan dengan benar, maka Anda tidak akan merasakan adanya cup di dalam vagina.

Anda disarankan untuk mengeluarkan menstrual cup setelah 12 jam atau ketika terjadi kebocoran, dan membilas cup dengan sabun serta air bersih, sebelum memasukkannya kembali. Ada juga jenis menstrual cup bekas pakai, bila sudah selesai dipakai Anda bisa membuangnya.
