Lensa kontak bisa menjadi alternatif praktis bagi Anda yang mengalami gangguan refraksi mata namun enggan memakai kacamata. Selain itu, lensa mata juga dapat membuat Anda tampil percaya diri. Memakai lensa kontak yang kotor atau yang tergores dapat membahayakan mata. Lensa kontak yang Anda gunakan dapat menggores lapisan terluar mata sehingga membuat mata iritasi. Untuk mencegah adanya iritasi dan infeksi, Anda dapat menerapkan cara merawat lensa kontak berikut ini:

1. Bersihkan lensa kontak dengan tepat

Saat memasang atau melepas lensa kontak, pastikan tangan Anda dalam keadaan bersih. Cuci tangan dengan sabun dan bilas hingga bersih sebelum menyentuh lensa kontak. Menyentuh lensa kontak dalam keadaan tangan kotor dapat menyebabkan lensa kontak terkontaminasi bakteri yang berisiko menyebabkan infeksi. Setelah mencuci tangan dengan bersih, keringkan tangan dengan bersih agar tidak ada kotoran yang menempel di tangan.

2. Hindari tidur menggunakan lensa kontak

Sebelum tidur, pastikan Anda sudah melepas lensa kontak. Tidur sambil menggunakan lensa kontak dapat meningkatkan risiko keratitis, yaitu peradangan pada kornea mata. Selain menyebabkan iritasi dan infeksi, memakai lensa kontak hingga tertidur dapat menghalangi suplai oksigen ke kornea. Hal ini dapat menyebabkan gangguan penglihatan.

3. Gunakan cairan pembersih khusus lensa kontak

Agar lensa kontak tahan lama, selalu gunakan cairan khusus lensa kontak untuk membersihkan lensa kontak. Hindari menggunakan air kran atau air mineral untuk membersihkan lensa kontak karena dapat mengandung bakteri yang memicu infeksi.

4. Ganti lensa kontak sesuai jadwal

Setiap lensa kontak memiliki usia pemakaian yang berbeda-beda. Pada kemasan lensa kontak terdapat aturan usia pemakaian sekali pakai, 1 bulan, 3 bulan, 6 bulan, dan lain-lain. Usia lensa kontak umumnya terhitung dari usia pemakaian sejak Anda membuka kemasan lensa kontak tersebut.

Memakai lensa kontak yang kedaluwarsa dapat menyebabkan mata sakit, perih, penglihatan kabur, sakit kepala, hingga infeksi yang lebih serius. Jika lensa kontak Anda sudah kedaluwarsa, sebaiknya buang dan ganti lensa kontak Anda agar tidak menimbulkan efek samping pada mata.

5. Bersihkan kotak penyimpan lensa kontak

Selain membersihkan lensa kontak, Anda juga perlu memerhatikan kotak penyimpanan lensa kontak. Sebaiknya, bersihkan kotak lensa penyimpanan secara rutin dan ganti kotak tersebut setiap 3 bulan sekali.

Selain mengetahui cara perawatan lensa kotak yang benar, cara memakai lensa kontak yang benar juga perlu Anda perhatikan. Kesalahan penggunaan lensa kontak bukan hanya meningkatkan risiko iritasi mata namun juga gangguan mata lainnya yang lebih serius.

Gunakan lensa kontak tidak melebihi anjuran dokter. Umumnya lensa kontak bisa digunakan hingga 14-16 jam per hari. Bagi Anda yang memiliki mata kering kronis, dokter mungkin merekomendasikan pemakaian lensa kontak hanya beberapa jam dalam sehari. Jika muncul rasa tidak nyaman pada mata sebaiknya segera lepaskan lensa kontak tersebut.

Hindari memakai lensa kontak orang lain. Pemakaian lensa kontak secara bergantian dapat menyebabkan penyebaran bakteri yang menyebabkan iritasi.

Gunakan riasan mata setelah menggunakan lensa kontak. Bagi Anda yang sehari-hari menggunakan riasan wajah, sebaiknya gunakan lensa kontak terlebih dahulu sebelum merias wajah. Memasang lensa mata setelah merias wajah dapat meningkatkan risiko terperangkapnya bakteri dan kotoran pada mata.

Hindari berenang menggunakan lensa kontak. Berenang menggunakan lensa kontak berisiko menyebabkan lensa kontak yang digunakan membesar, berubah bentuk dan menempel pada mata. Kondisi ini dapat menggores kornea sehingga menyebabkan bakteri masuk ke mata dan menyebabkan infeksi.
