Pertolongan Pertama Pada Penderita Epilepsi

Epilepsi merupakan suatu kelainan pada sistem saraf yang menyebabkan pasiennya untuk mengalami kejang yang berulang dan tiba-tiba. Di Indonesia, prevalensi pasien epilepsi sebanyak 0,5-4% dari total penduduk. Kejang terjadi ketika terdapat ketidakseimbangan elektrolit pada otak. Terdapat dua tipe kejang yaitu kejang umum dan parsial.

Jika Anda melihat seseorang yang mengalami kejang, Anda harus tetap tenang dan dapat melakukan langkah-langkah ini sebagai pertolongan pertama:

lindungi kepala penderita dengan bantalan
jalan nafas (hidung dan mulut) harus dijaga dari sumbatan, bs diposisikan tidur kesamping (1 sisi)
dilarang memasukan benda apapun ke dalam mulut
baju yang ketat harus dilonggarkan
penderita ditempatkan di tempat yang aman agar tidak terjadi cedera
temani penderita sampai sadar dari kejang, dan tenangkan penderita sampai sadar sepenuhnya
hindari pemberian makanan, minuman sampai penderita sadar sepenuhnya

Apabila kejang belum berhenti setelah 5 menit, kondisi ini disebut status epilepticus. Segera bawa pasien ke Instalasi Gawat Darurat di Rumah Sakit. Jangan biarkan kejang berlangsung lama karena dapat merusak jaringan otak dan berakibat fatal.

Jika Anda memiliki epilepsi, pastikan Anda rutin mengonsumsi obat Anda dan kontrol ke dokter secara berkala.
