Apakah Anda pernah mengalami pusing, di mana sekitar Anda seperti berputar dan membuat Anda kehilangan keseimbangan? Itulah yang disebut dengan vertigo.

Dilansir WebMD, vertigo dapat disebabkan oleh beberapa hal, antara lain:

  • BPPV - yaitu ketika partikel kalsium kecil (canaliths) terlepas dari lokasi normal dan berkumpul di telinga bagian dalam.
  • Penyakit Meniere - adalah gangguan telinga bagian dalam yang disebabkan oleh penumpukan cairan dan perubahan tekanan di telinga.
  • Neuritis Vestibularis - adalah gangguan telinga bagian dalam yang biasanya berhubungan dengan infeksi virus. Infeksi ini menyebabkan peradangan di telinga bagian dalam di sekitar saraf yang penting untuk membantu keseimbangan indera tubuh.

Gejala pada vertigo:

  • Sekeliling terasa berputar
  • Semuanya terlihat seperti miring
  • Tubuh terasa seperti digoyang
  • Tidak seimbang dan seperti ditarik ke satu arah

Gejala vertigo ini biasanya disertai keluhan:

  • Mual
  • Muntah
  • Pergerakan mata yang tidak normal
  • Sakit kepala
  • Berkeringat
  • Kehilangan pendengaran atau telinga berdengung

Brandt-Daroff exercises

Adalah latihan pergeseran dari posisi berbaring ke posisi duduk. Langkah-langkah latihan ini adalah sebagai berikut:

  • Duduk di permukaan datar baik di ranjang maupun sofa
  • Putar kepala 45 derajat atau sejauh mungkin ke kiri
  • Turunkan bagian kanan tubuh
  • Tahan posisi ini selama 30 detik sampai pusing yang dialami berhenti
  • Perlahan kembali ke posisi Anda semula
  • Putar kembali kepala ke tengah
  • Ulangi latihan pada sisi lain

 

Epley maneuver

Latihan ini adalah serangkaian gerakan yang dapat membantu meredakan vertigo dan memposisikan ulang kristal yang ada di dalam telinga. Tujuannya meredakan mual dan pusing.

  • Duduk di permukaan rata, seperti kasur atau sofa
  • Putar kepala 45 derajat ke arah kanan
  • Cepat berbaring
  • Tahan posisi selama 30 detik
  • Putar kembali kepala 45 derajat ke arah kiri
  • Tahan posisi selama 30 detik
  • Putar kepala dan tubuh 90 derajat ke kiri ke arah ranjang
  • Tahan posisi selama 30 detik
  • Perlahan duduk

Ketika vertigo kambuh memang rasanya sangat mengganggu sekali. Anda bisa mengonsultasikan pada dokter apabila vertigo disebabkan oleh adanya infeksi bakteri di telinga, sehingga dokter bisa meringankan gejalanya dengan antibiotik.

Untuk mengatasi vertigo biasanya dokter juga akan memberikan obat antihistamin atau antiemetik untuk mengurangi mual dan pusing.
