Menyimpan makanan di kulkas merupakan salah satu cara untuk mengurangi kebiasaan makan berlebih sekaligus mengurangi limbah dapur rumah tangga. Selain menyimpan bahan makanan, beberapa masakan matang juga dapat disimpan di kulkas agar dapat dikonsumsi kembali. Meskipun memiliki berbagai manfaat, namun menyimpan makanan di kulkas jika tidak dilakukan dengan tepat ternyata dapat menyebabkan kontaminasi bakteri.

Dilansir dari Mayo Clinic, kontaminasi bakteri umumnya tidak mengubah rasa, bau atau penampilan makanan. Akibatnya, Anda tidak menyadari bahwa makanan yang sedang dikonsumsi telah terkontaminasi. Untuk itu, sebaiknya hindari mengonsumsi makanan yang sudah terlalu lama berada di kulkas meskipun secara fisik tidak menunjukkan perubahan signifikan.

 

Berapa Lama Makanan Bisa Disimpan di Kulkas?

Jawabannya adalah berbeda-beda, tergantung pada jenis makanan, cara mengolah makanan dan tempat penyimpanan makanan tersebut. Sebelum menyimpan makanan, pastikan bahwa kulkas yang digunakan masih berfungsi dengan baik. Periksa apakah suhu yang diatur sudah sesuai dengan suhu yang dihasilkan.

Untuk memudahkan Anda dalam mengingat, tempelkan label berisi tanggal makanan dibuat dan disimpan di lemari pendingin. Selain itu, pisahkan daging mentah dengan daging olahan (daging cincang atau kemasan) ketika disimpan. Saat menyimpan daging kemasan, pastikan tanggal kadaluwarsa tetap terlihat sehingga Anda dapat segera membuangnya jika makanan sudah mulai basi.

 

Tips Menyimpan Makanan di Kulkas

Menyimpan makanan di kulkas dapat memperlambat tumbuhnya bakteri jika dilakukan dengan tepat. Selain memastikan suhu kulkas sudah sesuai, Anda juga perlu memperhatikan cara menyimpan makanan. Berikut ini cara aman menyimpan makanan di kulkas agar makanan dapat tahan lebih lama:

1. Simpan Makanan di Tempat yang Tertutup Rapat

Anda bisa menggunakan wadah makanan yang kedap udara atau memiliki segel makanan yang berfungsi dengan baik. Jika Anda membungkus makanan dengan plastic wrap, pastikan tidak ada celah yang terbuka untuk mencegah kontaminasi. Begitu juga jika Anda ingin menyimpan daging mentah, sebaiknya simpan daging saat masih segar. 

2. Periksa Petunjuk Penyimpanan

Beberapa makanan kemasan seperti daging kemasan, daging cincang, atau yoghurt memiliki aturan penyimpanan yang disesuaikan dengan jenis makanan tersebut. Agar lebih tahan lama, ikuti petunjuk penyimpanan yang tertera di kemasan.

3. Hindari Menyimpan Makanan Panas di Kulkas

Menyimpan makanan panas di dalam kulkas dapat merusak sistem pendingin sehingga kulkas tidak dapat berfungsi secara optimal. Jika Anda ingin segera menyimpan makanan panas, sebaiknya bagi makanan menjadi beberapa porsi lebih kecil baru letakkan di kulkas.

4. Gunakan Wadah Penyimpanan yang Sesuai

Wadah yang Anda gunakan untuk menyimpan makanan di kulkas dapat memengaruhi kualitas makanan yang disimpan. Pilih wadah kedap udara seperti kaca atau stainless steel untuk menyimpan makanan matang atau daging mentah. Hindari menyimpan makanan menggunakan kardus karena mudah basah jika terkena uap air sehingga rentan terkena kontaminasi.

5. Bersihkan Kulkas Secara Rutin

Setiap 1-2 minggu sekali, periksa kembali isi kulkas Anda. Segera buang beberapa makanan yang sudah terlalu lama disimpan atau menunjukkan tanda-tanda layu dan basi.
