Definisi

Saat ini, dunia memasuki era di mana banyak pekerjaan perlu diselesaikan dengan komputer. Tingginya penggunaan komputer atau layer monitor tanpa istirahat sehari-harinya dapat menyebabkan sekumpulan gejala yang disebut dengan Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS). Gejala ini muncul akibat mata yang merasa lelah setelah harus bekerja secara terus menerus. CVS tidak hanya dialami oleh orang dewasa, namun juga anak-anak yang perlu menggunakan komputer atau tablet untuk sekolahnya. Kondisi pandemi, work from home, dan belajar dari rumah juga meningkatkan kejadian CVS. 

 

Penyebab

Terdapat beberapa hal yang menyebabkan CVS, antara lain:

  • Penggunaan komputer atau layer monitor menyebabkan mata kita perlu memfokuskan pandangan setiap waktu. Perubahan layar yang sangat cepat membuat mata kita harus kembali memfokuskan pandangan terhadap gambar yang baru setiap saat. Hal ini menyebabkan otot pada bola mata kita bekerja terus menerus.
  • Selain memfokuskan pada gambar terus menerus, mata Anda juga terpapar terhadap perbedaan kontras yang harus diadaptasi oleh bola mata Anda.
  • Jika Anda telah memiliki kondisi mata yang lain sebelumnya dan tidak menggunakan kacamata ketika bekerja di depan layar monitor, mata Anda mengalami beban yang lebih berat.
  • Pekerjaan di depan layar komputer lebih sulit ketika Anda memiliki lensa yang tidak fleksibel.
  • Umumnya manusia akan mengedip sekitar 15-20 menit sekali untuk mencegah iritasi mata. Namun penelitian terbaru menunjukkan bahwa ketika sedang membaca, menonton, atau menatap layar komputer, jumlah kedipan mata kita akan turun hingga setengah dari normal.

Melihat komputer dan material yang. telah tercetak memiliki beberapa perbedaan, antara lain perubahan kontras terus menerus, tidak ada glare, dan memiliki gambar yang lebih jelas serta tidak berubah-ubah setiap waktu. 

 

Faktor Risiko

  • Memiliki pekerjaan yang melibatkan layar terus menerus, baik itu tablet, ponsel, maupun komputer.
  • Memiliki pencahayaan ruang kerja yang buruk.
  • Layar komputer terlalu gelap atau terlalu terang dibandingkan lingkungan sekitar.
  • Layar komputer terlalu dekat atau terlalu jauh dari mata Anda.
  • Posisi yang tidak nyaman sehingga Anda perlu meregangkan leher Anda setiap kali bekerja.
  • Tidak menggunakan kacamata ketika bekerja di depan layar komputer sekalipun memiliki kondisi mata lain sebelumnya.
  • Memiliki astigmatisme dan presbiopia.

 

Gejala

Gejala yang Anda alami jika Anda memiliki CVS adalah:

  • Pandangan buram
  • Pandangan ganda
  • Mata merah dan kering
  • Iritasi mata
  • Nyeri kepala
  • Nyeri pada leher atau punggung
  • Mata berair terus menerus

Jika Anda tidak melakukan apapun terhadap kondisi tersebut, CVS akan semakin mengganggu mata Anda. Hal ini juga dapat menurunkan efektivitas kerja Anda.

 

Diagnosis

Kondisi CVS dapat didiagnosis menggunakan pemeriksaan mata secara menyeluruh. Dokter Anda akan menanyakan mengenai keluhan Anda, berapa lama waktu yang perlu Anda habiskan di depan komputer dalam satu hari, riwayat penyakit mata sebelumnya, obat-obatan yang Anda konsumsi, dan faktor lingkungan yang memengaruhi tingkat penggunaan layar komputer Anda. Dokter Anda juga akan melakukan pengukuran visus untuk melihat pengaruh kondisi ini terhadap kemampuan melihat Anda. Setelah itu, dokter Anda juga akan melakukan penyesuaian lensa untuk Anda bekerja agar bisa mengompensasi kelainan refraksi yang Anda alami, seperti hipermetropia, miopia, dan astigmatisme. Dokter Anda juga akan melakukan pemeriksaan berkaitan dengan kemampuan fokus kedua mata Anda. Pemeriksaan ini dapat dilakukan dengan atau tanpa obat tetes mata sebelumnya untuk melihat kondisi normal mata Anda. Pada kondisi tertentu, obat tetes mata diperlukan untuk pemeriksaan.

 

Tata Laksana

Terdapat beberapa hal yang dapat diubah untuk memperbaiki kondisi tersebut.

  • Ubah pencahayaan di sekitar lingkungan kerja Anda. Jika Anda memiliki sumber pencahayaan lain di dekat ruang kerja Anda, pindahkan layer monitor Anda lebih dekat ke tempat yang lebih gelap. Gunakan lampu yang lebih redup atau ganti lampu meja Anda agar bisa dipindahkan dan disesuaikan setiap saat. Anda juga dapat menggunakan glare filter untuk layar monitor Anda
  •  Ubah susunan meja Anda. Posisi terbaik untuk monitor Anda adalah di bawah eye level atau sekitar 60–70 cm dari wajah Anda. Sesuaikan agar Anda tidak perlu meregangkan leher Anda untuk melihat layar komputer. Gunakan penyangga untuk meletakkan bahan pekerjaan Anda yang telah Anda cetak sejajar dengan layar komputer agar Anda tidak perlu mengubah pandangan Anda setiap saat
  • Beristirahat. Gunakan aturan 20-20-20, yaitu berhenti melihat layar setiap 20 menit dan lihat sesuatu yang jaraknya 20 feet (6 meter) selama 20 detik. Kedipkan mata Anda agar bola mata Anda tetap lembab. Jika Anda merasa mata Anda kering, berikan air mata buatan/artificial tears.
  • Sesuaikan settings pada komputer Anda. Jika Anda tidak menyukai tingkatan brightness, warna, kontras, dan ukuran font pada komputer Anda, ubah untuk menyesuaikan selera Anda. 

American Academy of Ophthalmology tidak merekomendasikan menggunakan lensa anti blue light sebagai tambahan untuk kacamata Anda. AAO menyatakan bahwa keluhan yang selama ini Anda alami berasal dari durasi penggunaan layar komputer yang berlebihan dan posisi bekerja yang kurang baik, bukan dari blue light yang dipancarkan oleh komputer Anda. Blue light dari layar monitor Anda tidak menyebabkan kerusakan pada mata Anda dan keluhan Anda dapat dikurangi dengan melakukan hal-hal di atas.

 

Komplikasi

  • Penurunan kemampuan akomodasi mata (convergence insufficiency)
  • Exophoria
  • Kesalahan dalam bekerja

 

Pencegahan

  1. Pastikan komputer Anda berjarak 60–70 cm dari wajah Anda. Posisi sentral dari layar monitor adala 10–15º di bawah eye level Anda.
  2. Kurangi glare dengan menggunakan filter layar komputer yang matte untuk komputer, tablet, dan ponsel.
  3. Ikuti aturan 20-20-20 untuk selalu melihat benda sejauh 20 feet (6 meter) setiap 20 menit sekali selama 20 detik.
  4. Lakukan hal lain yang tidak berhubungan dengan layar komputer ketika sedang beristirahat.
  5. Istirahat selama 15 menit setiap 2 jam sekali setelah menggunakan layar komputer.
  6. Gunakan air mata buatan untuk mencegah mata kering.
  7. Gunakan humidifier di ruangan tempat Anda paling banyak bekerja dengan layar monitor Anda.
  8. Pastikan cahaya pada ruangan Anda tidak terlalu terang maupun gelap. Pastikan bahwa layar monitor Anda bukan merupakan layar yang paling terang dibandingkan lingkungan sekitarnya.
  9. Jika Anda menggunakan lensa kontak, ganti sesekali menggunakan kacamata.
  10. Lakukan pemeriksaan mata berkala. Anda mungkin perlu menyesuaikan ukuran kacamata Anda ketika sedang bekerja di depan layar komputer.
  11. Lakukan beberapa perubahan berikut untuk layar komputer Anda:
    • Naikkan kontras pada layar Anda.
    • Tingkatkan font pada layar Anda.
    • Ubah brightness pada layar Anda. Pastikan layar Anda tidak terlalu terang ataupun terlalu gelap dibandingkan lingkungan sekitarnya.
    • Turunkan color temperature pada layar Anda. Hal ini dapat menurunkan level blue light yang teremisi ke mata Anda, sehingga menurunkan kejadian CVS.
    • Naikkan refresh rate dari layar komputer Anda untuk menurunkan kejadian flickering.

 

Kapan Harus ke Dokter?

Umumnya kondisi CVS dapat hilang jika Anda melakukan langkah di atas atau dengan mengurangi screen time Anda. Kunjungi dokter secara berkala untuk melakukan pemeriksaan visus dan penyesuaian kacamata Anda. Jika Anda mengalami gejala terus setelah melakukan langkah di atas, mengalami perubahan visus mendadak, mengalami nyeri pada mata yang tidak hilang, kondisi mata kering Anda tidak membaik dengan air mata buatan, atau jika Anda memiliki gejala mata lainnya, kunjungi fasilitas kesehatan terdekat untuk dilakukan pemeriksaan lebih lanjut.
