Jenis kelamin bayi sebenarnya sudah ditentukan sejak saat pembuahan. Setiap sel telur yang dibuahi oleh sperma membawa satu set kromosom dari orang tua. Kromosom inilah yang menentukan jenis kelamin bayi.

Wanita memiliki dua kromosom X (XX) sedangkan pria memiliki masing-masing satu kromosom X dan Y (XY). Kromosom ini akan ditransfer oleh sperma yang membuahi sel telur untuk kemudian menentukan jenis kelamin bayi.

 

Metode Shettles untuk Meningkatkan Peluang Bayi Perempuan

Secara ilmiah sebenarnya menentukan jenis kelamin bayi secara spesifik diluar kemampuan manusia. Namun, ada beberapa teori yang mengklaim diri dapat meningkatkan peluang jenis kelamin bayi, misalnya metode Shettles.

Landrum B. Shettles adalah seorang dokter asal Amerika Serikat yang banyak mempelajari tentang sperma, waktu berhubungan seksual dan faktor-faktor lain yang dapat berdampak pada peluang sperma dalam mencapai sel telur. Dari penelitiannya, Shettles mengembangkan metode yang bisa dipertimbangkan apabila Anda memiliki kecenderungan menginginkan bayi dengan jenis kelamin tertentu.

Menurut Shettles, ada beberapa kemungkinan untuk meningkatkan peluang melahirkan bayi perempuan, di antaranya:

Posisi seksual dan penetrasi yang dangkal

Shettles mengungkapkan bahwa posisi seksual tertentu dengan penetrasi yang dangkal dapat membawa keuntungan bagi sperma pembawa jenis kelamin perempuan (X) karena lingkungan yang lebih asam di dalam vagina.

Waktu berhubungan intim

Untuk meningkatkan peluang sperma X bertahan hidup lebih lama dan dominan saat ovulasi terjadi, maka sebaiknya berhubungan seksual di akhir menstruasi dan tiga hari sebelum ovulasi.

Mengontrol orgasme wanita

Shettles percaya bahwa sekresi yang muncul selama orgasme wanita memiliki karakteristik basa, yang dapat menguntungkan sperma pembawa jenis kelamin laki-laki (Y). Sehingga, wanita disarankan untuk menunda orgasme sampai setelah ejakulasi pria agar sperma X bertahan lebih lama.

Berendam larutan cuka

Cuka memiliki sifat asam yang dapat menciptakan lingkungan asam di vagina. Menurut teori, berendam larutan cuka beberapa waktu sebelum berhubungan intim dapat meningkatkan peluang keberhasilan sperma X dalam membuahi sel telur.

Perlu diingat bahwa efektivitas metode Shettles belum didukung oleh bukti ilmiah yang kuat. Peluang keberhasilan metode ini untuk bisa hamil bayi perempuan mungkin hanya 50-50. Jauh lebih penting untuk fokus pada kesehatan kehamilan dan bayi yang sehat tanpa memandang jenis kelaminnya.
