Termometer merupakan alat kesehatan yang penting untuk disediakan di rumah. Terlebih jika terdapat si Kecil, termometer dapat menjadi alat untuk Ayah dan Bunda memastikan apakah si Kecil mengalami demam. Saat ini, tersedia banyak pilihan termometer, sehingga mungkin bingung untuk memilih termometer mana yang sebaiknya dimiliki. Jenis-jenis termometer

Dilansir Mayo Clinic, secara umum ada dua jenis termometer suhu badan:

  • Termometer kontak: Termometer kontak dapat digunakan di dahi, mulut, ketiak, rektum dan memberikan hasil bacaan kurang dari 1 menit. 
  • Termometer non kontak: Termometer non kontak menggunakan infrared untuk mengukur suhu dengan mendeteksi arteri di dahi atau telinga. Salah satu termometer non kontak yang paling sering dipakai adalah tympanic thermometer atau termometer telinga.

Mengenal termometer telinga

Termometer telinga bekerja dengan mengukur suhu membran telinga atau gendang telinga melalui sensor infrared. Menurut National Health Service (NHS), seperti dilansir Medical News Today, termometer telinga dapat memberikan hasil yang akurat apabila digunakan dengan benar.

Meskipun penggunaan termometer telinga diketahui lebih akurat dibandingkan dengan termometer non kontak lainnya, terdapat beberapa hal yang memengaruhi hasil bacaan termometer telinga, antara lain:

  • Posisinya salah.
  • Ukuran dan kedalaman terowongan telinga.
  • Adanya kotoran telinga.
  • Kelembaban di dalam rongga telinga.

Cara menggunakan termometer telinga

  • Tarik daun telinga ke atas atau ke belakang.
  • Perlahan masukkan ujung termometer ke dalam saluran telinga menuju gendang telinga. Sensor harus mengarah ke saluran telinga dan bukan ke dinding telinga.
  • Saat termometer berada di posisinya, hidupkan tombol power dan tunggu sampai ada tanda pembacaan selesai.
  • Keluarkan termometer dari rongga telinga.

Cara membaca hasil bacaan suhu

Suhu tubuh manusia dipengaruhi oleh banyak faktor, termasuk faktor lingkungan. Suhu tubuh manusia cenderung turun di pagi hari dan meningkat di malam hari.

Secara umum, suhu tubuh normal rata-rata orang dewasa adalah berkisar di angka 36,5 - 37,5 derajat celcius. Tubuh dikatakan demam apabila suhu tubuh meningkat di atas 38 derajat celcius.

Siapa saja yang bisa menggunakan termometer telinga?

Termometer telinga sebaiknya digunakan untuk anak-anak di atas usia 6 bulan. Selain itu, orang-orang dengan kondisi berikut juga tidak disarankan menggunakan termometer telinga:

  • Yang sedang menggunakan obat tetes telinga.
  • Yang memiliki produksi kotoran telinga berlebihan.
  • Mengalami infeksi telinga.
  • Ada cairan atau darah yang keluar di telinga.
  • Sedang mengalami sakit telinga.
  • Baru saja mendapatkan operasi telinga.
