Proses vaksinasi Covid-19 sudah mulai diselenggarakan di berbagai negara, termasuk Indonesia. Dalam pelaksanaannya, vaksin Covid-19 yang beredar harus disuntikkan dalam dua tahapan. Mengapa?

 

Ini alasan vaksin Covid-19 harus dilakukan dua kali

Pemberian dosis vaksin lebih dari sekali bukanlah hal baru dalam dunia medis. Selain vaksin Covid-19, beberapa jenis vaksin yang diberikan dalam dua dosis di antaranya vaksin cacar air, hepatitis A, dan herpes zoster. Beberapa vaksin juga membutuhkan dosis lebih dari dua kali seperti DTaP untuk difteri, tetanus, dan pertusis.

Beberapa vaksin Covid-19 yang digunakan di Indonesia antara lain Sinovac, Sinopharm, dan AstraZeneca. Masing-masing vaksin tersebut harus dibelikan dalam 2 kali dosis dengan jarak vaksinasi yang berbeda-beda antara dosis ke-1 dan ke-2.

Untuk vaksin Sinovac, jarak minimal antara dosis ke-1 dan ke-2 adalah 28 hari. Vaksin Sinopharm berjarak 21 hari, sedangkan untuk AstraZeneca berjarak antara 4-12 minggu. Apabila dosis ke-2 tidak bisa diberikan sesuai jarak minimal maka bisa diberikan sesegera mungkin tanpa perlu mengulang dari dosis pertama.

Ada alasan penting mengapa vaksin Covid-19 perlu diberikan dalam dua tahapan. Ketika vaksin disuntikkan ke dalam tubuh, sistem kekebalan tubuh bekerja agar dapat mengenali sumber penyakit tersebut. Dengan memberikan lebih dari satu kalo dosis vaksin, berarti memberi sistem imun tubuh lebih banyak waktu untuk mengenali cara efektif melawan virus.

Ketika vaksin pertama diberikan, sistem kekebalan tubuh akan membentuk produksi antibodi spesifik agar tubuh lebih siap ketika virus asli masuk ke dalam tubuh. Suntikan pertama berfungsi untuk memicu respon kekebalan awal terhadap vaksin yang diberikan. Sedangkan, suntikan kedua berfungsi untuk meningkatkan kekuatan respon imun yang sudah terbentuk sebelumnya.

Dengan kata lain, vaksinasi Covid-19 perlu dilakukan sebanyak dua kali untuk mendapat manfaat vaksin yang optimal. Jika seseorang hanya menerima vaksin dalam dosis satu kali, maka dikhawatirkan kekebalan tubuh orang tersebut tidak terbentuk maksimal.

 

Diharapkan dapat mencegah infeksi berulang

Mengingat virus corona masih terbilang baru, para peneliti membutuhkan waktu lebih lama untuk mempelajari seluk beluk virus ini. Dalam beberapa kasus, penyintas Covid-19 masih bisa mengalami infeksi ulang setelah beberapa bulan dari infeksi pertama. Untuk itu, pemberian vaksin Covid-19 dalam dua tahap diharapkan juga dapat mencegah infeksi berulang dengan virus yang sama.

 

Setelah vaksinasi, tetap patuh protokol kesehatan

Meskipun Anda sudah mendapatkan dosis penuh vaksin Covid-19, bukan berarti tubuh menjadi kebal dengan virus Covid-19. Vaksin Covid-19 diberikan dengan tujuan mengurangi keparahan gejala infeksi yang muncul. Namun, selama pandemi masih berlangsung, diharapkan untuk tetap mematuhi protokol kesehatan yang berlaku.

Selalu kenakan masker saat beraktivitas di luar rumah atau bertemu dengan orang lain. Hindari kerumunan dan menjaga jarak jika Anda sedang berada di luar rumah. Selain itu, kurangi mobilitas dan rajin cuci tangan dengan sabun setelah berkegiatan.
