Mencuci hidung adalah salah satu cara pengobatan yang banyak digunakan untuk alergi hidung, rinitis alergi juga sinusitis. Terapi mencuci hidung berkhasiat untuk melegakan rongga hidung, meredakan bersin-bersin, serta kelebihan produksi lendir. Bagi Anda yang mengalami alergi dan ingin melakukan pengobatan rumahan, terapi cuci hidung atau nasal spray bisa dilakukan ketika alergi Anda kambuh.

Cara melakukan cuci hidung

Pada prinsipnya, cuci hidung atau irigasi hidung (nasal spray) dilakukan dengan mengalirkan cairan saline/NaCl ke dalam rongga hidung. Anda bisa menggunakan neti pot, tabung jarum suntik (spuit), atau botol bidet. Sedangkan untuk cairannya, Anda bisa menggunakan air matang atau air matang hangat dengan campuran garam atau anda bisa membeli cairan saline/NaCl yang tersedia di apotek. Disarankan menggunakan air matang untuk menghindari masuknya kuman ke dalam rongga hidung, sementara air hangat dapat membantu mengencerkan lendir dan membuat rongga hidung lebih nyaman.

Cara melakukan cuci hidung yaitu:

  • Siapkan perlengkapan Anda yang sudah dicuci bersih. Jangan lupa untuk cuci tangan sebelum melakukan cuci hidung
  • Tuangkan isi larutan saline atau campuran air garam ke dalam neti pot/botol bidet/spuit
  • Masukkan ujung botol bidet atau spuit ke salah satu lubang hidung, lalu tekan atau dorong spuit hingga cairan masuk ke lubang hidung kanan dan keluar lewat hidung kiri. Miringkan kepala untuk membantu larutan saline tidak masuk ke kerongkongan
  • Lakukan hingga larutan saline dalam peralatan Anda habis
  • Bersihkan larutan saline dan lendir yang ada di dalam rongga hidung, kemudian coba bernapas dengan hidung
  • Ulangi pada sisi lubang hidung yang lain

Untuk menjaga agar tetap higienis, selalu sterilkan kembali spuit atau botol bidet yang digunakan. Hindari berbagi semprotan hidung dengan orang lain dan pastikan ujung semprotan hidung tidak menyentuh permukaan apa pun selain bagian dalam hidung Anda untuk mencegah kontaminasi.

 

Manfaat cuci hidung

Anda bisa melakukan cuci hidung sekali dalam sehari pada malam hari. Dilansir dari WebMD, larutan garam dapat membilas saluran hidung Anda, mengembalikan kelembapan dan meredakan peradangan pada selaput lendir yang melapisi area sinus. Terapi irigasi hidung ini juga disarankan bagi pasien Covid-19 yang mengalami anosmia untuk membantu mengaktifkan kembali saraf olfaktori sebagai reseptor utama indera penciuman sehingga dapat berfungsi dengan optimal. Manfaat lain dari irigasi hidung adalah dapat membersihkan kotoran dalam hidung setelah seharian beraktivitas.

Selain menggunakan cara di atas, Anda juga bisa menggunakan nasal spray yang tersedia di apotek. Untuk penggunaan nasal spray, ikuti petunjuk pemakaian pada kemasan atau konsultasikan pada dokter. Jika mengalami iritasi atau mimisan, maka sebaiknya hentikan pemakaian untuk sementara.
