Retinol dan vitamin C merupakan bahan aktif yang paling efektif untuk menyamarkan tanda penuaan seperti kerutan dan garis halus. Retinol membantu mendorong pergantian sel untuk mengurangi tekstur dan kerutan, sedangkan vitamin C mengandung antioksidan yang melindungi kulit dari efek radikal bebas yang merusak kulit.

Pada beberapa orang, terutama pemilik kulit sensitif, penggunaan retinol dan vitamin C dapat memicu iritasi. Untuk menghindari iritasi, Anda bisa menggunakan bahan keduanya menggunakan tips berikut:

1. Gunakan pada waktu yang berbeda dalam sehari

Dilansir dari Byrdie, para ahli menyarankan untuk menggunakan retinol dan vitamin C pada waktu yang berbeda dalam sehari, tidak secara bersamaan dengan cara berlapis. Misalnya, Anda bisa menggunakan vitamin C di pagi hari dan retinol di malam hari.

Vitamin C lebih baik digunakan di pagi hari untuk melindungi kulit dari radikal bebas yang akan Anda hadapi di udara sepanjang hari. Sementara itu, retinol dipercaya lebih efektif digunakan saat malam hari dimana sel mengalami regenerasi.

2. Mulai dari dosis rendah

Penggunaan retinol dapat menyebabkan kulit mengelupas, gatal, dan kemerahan. Biasanya ini terjadi ketika pertama kali penggunaan retinol dosis tinggi. Sebagai awalan, mulailah menggunakan retinol dosis rendah 1-2 kali dalam seminggu, lalu jika kulit sudah mulai beradaptasi, Anda bisa meningkatkan kadar retinol dan frekuensinya.

Penggunaan retinol dapat membuat kulit Anda lebih sensitif terhadap sinar matahari. Untuk melindungi kulit dari efek samping penggunaan retinol, sebaiknya gunakan sunscreen dengan SPF minimal 30 bahkan jika Anda sedang berada di dalam ruangan. Sebaiknya, hindari penggunaan retinol jika Anda akan menghabiskan banyak waktu di bawah sinar matahari langsung tanpa perlindungan matahari yang cukup.
