Risiko Berenang Menggunakan Lensa Kontak

Berolahraga menggunakan lensa kontak sering menjadi pilihan bagi Anda yang memiliki gangguan penglihatan. Namun dalam kaitannya dengan olahraga air, menggunakan lensa kontan saat berolahraga sebenarnya sangat tidak dianjurkan.

Ketika air baik air dari keran, kolam renang, air laut mengenai lensa mata Anda, hal ini dapat menybebabkan kontaminasi bakteri yang dapat menyebabkan mata mengalami iritasi dan infeksi.

Berenang di alam seperti di sungai, pantai, danau atau sumber air alami lainnya memiliki risiko lebih tinggi dari berenang di kolam karena perairan alami mengandung bakteri lebih banyak daripada kolam renang. Namun demikian, bukan berarti berenang di kolam renang menggunakan lensa kontak menjadi lebih aman.

Meski telah menggunakan klorin untuk membunuh bakteri, bukan berarti air kolam renang bebas dari bakteri atau patogen lainnya. Lensa mata memiliki sifat yang lembab sehingga patigen dan senyawa kimia lainnya pada air kolam dapat masuk dan menginfeksi mata.

Dilansir dari Healthline, memakai lensa kontak saat berenang dapat menyebabkan masalah penglihatan di antaranya:

  • Mata mengalami iritasi mata karena lensa menempel di mata
  • Sindrom mata kering, terutama saat berenang di kolam yang mengandung klorin atau air laut
  • Acanthamoba, infeksi mata karena kuman yang ada di sumber air (keran, danau, sumur, dll)
  • Abrasi atau goresan kornea
  • Radang mata (uveitis), peradangan pada lapisan tengah mata
  • Ulkus kornea, yaitu luka terbuka pada kornea mata
  • Keratitis, yaitu peradangan pada kornea mata

Dilansir dari CDC, banyak orang tidak mengetahui bahwa lensa kontak sebenarnya tidak dianjurkan untuk terpapar air seperti air keran dan kolam renang. Karenanya, untuk membersihkan lensa mata Anda dianjurkan menggunakan cairan khusus pembersih lensa mata.

Air dapat menyebabkan lensa kontak yang lunak berubah bentuk, membesar, dan lebih lengket pada mata. Lensa kontak yang dipakai saat berenang juga dapat menyerap air sangat cepat sehingga ketika dipakai dalam waktu cukup lama, hal ini akan meningkatkan risiko masuknya bakteri, virus dan kuman ke area mata. Kondisi ini juga berisiko menyebabkan gesekan pada kornea mata dan memicu peradangan.

Perlu diketahui bahwa risiko ini bukan hanya terjadi ketika berenang, namun juga pada saat mandi. Karenanya, sebaiknya lepaskan lensa kontak Anda ketika Anda akan bersentuhan dengan air.

Tips Aman Berenang Menggunakan Lensa Kontak

Apabila Anda merasa perlu menggunakan lensa kontak saat berenang, ada beberapa tips untuk mengurangi risiko infeksi pada mata yang bisa Anda lakukan, yaitu:

Tetap menggunakan kacamata renang. Anda bisa menggunakan lensa kontak saat berenang asal Anda melindungi mata Anda menggunakan kacamata renang. Pilihlah kacamata renang yang berukuran pas dan dapat mencegah air masuk ke mata.

Segera lepas lensa kontak Anda setelah berenang. Usai berenang, segera lepas dan bersihkan lensa mata Anda dengan cairan khusus. Anda juga dapat mempertimbangkan penggunaan lensa kontak harian sekali pakai setelah berenang.
