How It Works
Ciprofibrate is a medication used alongside a healthy diet to help lower "bad cholesterol" (Low-Density Lipoprotein or LDL) and triglycerides, while boosting "good cholesterol" (High-Density Lipoprotein or HDL). It works by increasing the activity of enzymes that break down fats in the blood. Ciprofibrate belongs to the class of drugs known as fibrates.
Indications
Ciprofibrate is primarily used to manage high cholesterol and triglyceride levels in individuals with hyperlipidemia (a condition where blood cholesterol levels are excessively high) who are at risk for cardiovascular diseases. It is effective in controlling the types of fats that can contribute to blockages in arteries, leading to cardiovascular diseases.

Ciprofibrate, when taken alongside other fibrates, can increase the risk of rhabdomyolysis (a syndrome or collection of symptoms caused by damage and death of a skeleton muscle tissue. The breakdown of muscle tissue may result in acute kidney failure or even death) and myoglobinuria (conditions characterized by the presence of myoglobin in urine).
