Minyak kelapa adalah jenis minyak nabati yang terbuat dari perasan daging kelapa. Minyak ini berbentuk padat pada suhu kamar dan mencair jika dipanaskan.

Minyak kelapa memiliki aroma dan rasa yang enak. Minyak kelapa juga mudah beradaptasi sehingga menjadikannya bahan yang sempurna untuk ditambahkan ke berbagai produk, baik produk makanan, tabir surya, produk rambut hingga deodoran.

Manfaat Minyak Kelapa

Minyak kelapa memiliki aneka manfaat bagi kesehatan, di antaranya:

  • Membantu Menurunkan Berat Badan

Kandungan asam laurat adalah jenis lemak jenuh yang ditemukan dalam minyak kelapa. Asam laurat yang masuk ke dalam tubuh akan bergerak ke hati dan diubah menjadi energi. Asam ini tidak disimpan di dalam tubuh sebagai lemak sehingga berpotensi membantu menurunkan berat badan.

 

  • Meningkatkan Kesehatan Kulit dan Rambut

Minyak kelapa banyak digunakan di dalam produk kosmetik karena efektif sebagai pelembab untuk mengatasi kondisi seperti kulit kering dan kasar. Minyak kelapa juga membantu mengurangi kehilangan protein pada rambut sehingga meningkatkan kesehatan rambut.

 

  • Meningkatkan Fungsi Otak

Penelitian menemukan bahwa mengonsumsi minyak kelapa membantu meningkatkan fungsi kognitif. Bahan kimia di dalam minyak kelapa dikaitkan dengan pengurangan gejala penyakit alzheimer dengan menyediakan sumber energi lain untuk sel otak yang rusak.

Berapa Batasan Minyak Kelapa yang Boleh Dikonsumsi Setiap Hari?

Bagaimanapun, mengonsumsi minyak kelapa berlebihan tetap dapat meningkatkan risiko penyakit jantung. Minyak kelapa bisa menjadi tambahan yang bergizi jika diperlakukan seperti lemak atau minyak lainnya.

Agar mendapatkan manfaat kesehatannya, gunakan minyak kelapa hingga di bawah 10% dari total kalori harian. Artinya Anda hanya boleh mengonsumsi sekitar 200 kalori dari lemak jenuh per hari berdasarkan asupan kalori 2.000 kalori.

Jika dalam setiap sendok makan minyak kelapa (14 gram) terkandung sekitar 117 kalori, maka konsumsi minyak kelapa sebaiknya dibatasi sekitar dua sendok makan minyak kelapa per hari.

 

Cara Menggunakan Minyak Kelapa

Ada beberapa cara sehat untuk memanfaatkan minyak kelapa dalam asupan sehari-hari, di antaranya:

  • Menggunakannya untuk menumis sayuran, telur, daging atau ikan
  • Menggunakan untuk memanggang unggas atau daging
  • Menggunakannya sebagai pengganti minyak atau mentega dengan perbandingan 1:1
  • Menambahkan 1-2 sendok teh minyak kelapa ke dalam kopi atau teh

 

Terlepas dari manfaatnya bagi kesehatan, minyak kelapa masih menjadi kontroversi karena kandungan lemak jenuhnya yang tinggi. Membatasi konsumsi tidak lebih dari 2 sendok makan per hari dapat membantu Anda mendapatkan manfaat kesehatannya.
