Beras merah adalah salah satu varian beras yang memiliki nama lain Oryza Glaberrima, sedangkan berat putih adalah Oryza Sativa. Kandungan aktif di dalam beras merah yang disebut monacolin K punya manfaat menurunkan kolesterol seperti obat lovastatin.

Beras merah juga kaya kandungan magnesium, zat yang dibutuhkan oleh tulang untuk membangun tulang tetap sehat dan terhindar dari osteoporosis.
