Indeks Massa Tubuh atau disebut BMI adalah perhitungan ukuran tinggi dan berat badan untuk menggambarkan kondisi kesehatan terkait dengan tinggi dan berat badan. Dari perhitungan IMT Anda bisa tahu apakah berat badan Anda tergolong normal, kelebihan berat badan atau obesitas.

 

Indeks Massa Tubuh (BMI) yang Normal

Seseorang dianggap sehat dan memiliki IMT yang normal bila hasil perhitungan menunjukkan angka di antara 18,5-25. Perlu dicatat bahwa perhitungan IMT bukanlah tes yang menentukan Anda sehat atau tidak. Ada serangkaian tes lain yang perlu dilakukan terkait kondisi kesehatan tertentu.

Hasil perhitungan IMT yang tinggi memiliki korelasi yang erat dengan kelebihan berat badan dan obesitas, yang meningkatkan risiko penyakit tertentu. Orang-orang dengan kelebihan berat badan dan obesitas cenderung memiliki risiko kesehatan, di antaranya:

  • Penyakit jantung koroner
  • Hipertensi
  • Osteoartritis
  • Sleep apnea
  • Kanker
  • Strok
  • Diabetes tipe 2
  • Penyakit kandung kemih
  • Peradangan kronis
  • Kualitas hidup yang rendah

Sedangkan hasil perhitungan IMT di bawah angka normal juga menunjukkan risiko kesehatan tertentu. Orang yang memiliki berat badan di bawah normal menurut perhitungan IMT juga berisiko atas beberapa penyakit di antaranya:

  • Penyakit kardiovaskular
  • Depresi
  • Kesulitan untuk hamil
  • Kulit kering
  • Rambut rontok
  • Menstruasi tidak teratur
  • Kekurangan nutrisi
  • Osteoporosis
  • Sistem kekebalan tubuh yang lemah

 

Cara Menghitung Indeks Massa Tubuh (BMI)

Perhitungan IMT

berat badan (kg) : (tinggi badan (m) x tinggi badan (m))

Keterangan penilaian IMT:

  • Berat badan kurang: jika hasil kurang dari 18,5
  • Berat badan normal: jika hasil di antara 18,5 hingga 24,9
  • Berat badan berlebih: jika hasil di antara 25,0 hingga 29,9
  • Obesitas: jika hasil lebih tinggi dari 30
