Sebagai ibu menyusui, Anda perlu menjaga asupan nutrisi untuk menjaga kesehatan tubuh dan produksi ASI bagi si kecil. Namun terkadang ibu menyusui mengalami masalah kesehatan seperti salah satunya sakit gigi. Sakit gigi pada ibu menyusui dikhawatirkan dapat mengganggu asupan nutrisi ibu dan memengaruhi produksi ASI. Apa sebenarnya penyebab ibu menyusui rentan mengalami sakit gigi?

 

Penyebab Sakit Gigi pada Ibu Menyusui

Sakit gigi dapat disebabkan oleh banyak faktor, mulai dari kerusakan gigi, gigi sensitif, impaksi gigi bungsu, atau masalah kesehatan gigi dan mulut lainnya. Pada ibu menyusui, penyebab sakit gigi biasanya disebabkan oleh adanya penyerapan nutrisi dari ibu ke bayi. Beberapa penyebab sakit gigi pada ibu menyusui, di antaranya:

 

1. Kurangnya Asupan Kalsium

Selama hamil dan menyusui, ibu membutuhkan asupan kalsium lebih banyak dari biasanya. Kalsium dibutuhkan untuk menjaga kepadatan tulang agar tidak mudah rapuh. Kalsium juga bermanfaat untuk menjaga kesehatan mulut dan jantung pada ibu.

Berdasarkan data Angka Kecukupan Gizi Tahun 2019, ibu hamil dan menyusui membutuhkan asupan kalsium sebanyak 1400 miligram (mg). Kekurangan kalsium akan dapat menyebabkan gigi mudah keropos, berlubang dan rusaknya lapisan luar akar gigi.

2. Kurang Menjaga Kebersihan Gigi dan Mulut

Salah satu penyebab ibu menyusui sering mengalami sakit gigi adalah kurang menjaga kebersihan gigi dan mulut. Masalah ini dapat terjadi sejak sebelum masa kehamilan dan menyusui. Beberapa masalah yang dapat timbul antara lain peradangan dan pembengkakan gusi akibat infeksi (gingivitis), karies, dan penumpukan karang gigi. Adanya kesibukan merawat bayi terkadang menyebabkan ibu tidak sempat melakukan perawatan gigi yang memicu sakit gigi.

 

3. Perubahan Hormon Estrogen

Perubahan hormon estrogen juga dapat menyebabkan ibu menyusui mengalami sakit gigi. Saat menyusui, hormon estrogen akan berada dalam tingkat rendah untuk menjaga produksi ASI. Rendahnya hormon estrogen dapat memengaruhi kekuatan tulang sehingga berisiko meningkatkan peradangan pada jaringan gigi (periodontitis).


Pengobatan Sakit Gigi pada Ibu Menyusui

Pengobatan sakit gigi pada ibu menyusui disesuaikan dengan penyebab sakit gigi tersebut. Jika sakit gigi dapat diatasi dengan obat-obatan pereda nyeri seperti parasetamol atau ibuprofen, maka ibu menyusui bisa minum obat-obatan tersebut. Namun jika sakit gigi memerlukan obat antibiotik, maka dokter akan meresepkan obat-obatan yang aman untuk dikonsumsi ibu menyusui.

Selain mengonsumsi obat-obatan, Anda juga dapat melakukan penanganan pada sakit gigi dengan perawatan rumahan seperti berikut:

 

1. Berkumur Air Garam

Dilansir dari Healthline, kumur air garam dapat membantu mengurangi peradangan saat sakit gigi. Air garam adalah disinfektan alami dan dapat melonggarkan partikel makanan dan kotoran yang menyangkut di sela gigi.

Untuk meredakan sakit gigi, Anda dapat mencampurkan 1/2 sendok teh garam ke dalam segelas air hangat dan gunakan sebagai obat kumur. Lakukan kumur 2-3 kali sehari hingga sakit gigi mereda.

2. Kompres Air Dingin

Anda juga dapat meredakan sakit gigi dengan memberi kompres dingin pada pipi atau gigi yang sakit. Caranya, masukkan es batu ke dalam plastk lalu bungkus dengan handuk. Kemudian tempelkan handuk tersebut pada pipi atau gigi yang nyeri selama 15-20 menit. Ketika Anda mengompres pipi atau bagian gigi yang sakit, suhu dingin dapat membuat pembuluh darah mengecil dan mengurangi rasa sakit. 

 

Sakit gigi adalah salah satu masalah kesehatan yang sering dialami ibu menyusui. Sakit gigi bisa disebabkan oleh banyak hal, termasuk kondisi yang dialami ibu sebelum masa hamil dan menyusui.
