How it Works
Chlordiazepoxide is a drug from the benzodiazepine class, which works by reducing abnormal electrical activity in the brain. Clidinium, an anticholinergic medication, helps alleviate stomach spasms and cramps.
Indications
The combination of chlordiazepoxide and clidinium is used in conjunction with other medications to treat the following conditions:

Gastric ulcers

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), which causes symptoms such as abdominal pain, bloating, constipation, and diarrhea

Enterocolitis (inflammation of the intestines)
Contraindications
This medication should not be used by individuals with the following conditions:

Glaucoma (damage to the optic nerve caused by high pressure inside the eye)

Myasthenia gravis (muscle weakness resulting from nerve and muscle disorders)

Gastrointestinal obstruction

Paralytic ileus (obstruction or paralysis of the intestines)

Ulcerative colitis (inflammation of the colon and rectum)

Benign bladder neck obstruction
-
Enlarged prostate gland

Notify your doctor immediately if you experience any serious side effects, including:

Decreased sweating

Dry, hot, or flushed skin

Difficulty speaking

Uncontrolled or unusual muscle movements

Mental or mood changes (such as confusion, restlessness, unusual excitement, depression, or strange thoughts)

Difficulty urinating

Decreased sexual ability
Types
Chlordiazepoxide and clidinium are available as tablets containing chlordiazepoxide hydrochloride 5 mg and clidinium bromide 2.5 mg.
Dosage
- Adults:
- The dosage is tailored to the patient's condition and response to the medication.
- The usual dosage is 1-2 tablets or capsules taken 3-4 times a day.
- Elderly: The initial dose is typically 2 tablets/capsules per day. The dosage may be gradually increased based on the patient's needs and tolerance.
Safety

This medication may cause dizziness, drowsiness, or blurred vision.

It can also reduce sweating, which makes you more prone to heat stroke.

It is not recommended for use during pregnancy, as it may harm the fetus. If you become pregnant or suspect you might be pregnant while taking this medication, inform your doctor immediately.

Chlordiazepoxide and clidinium are excreted in breast milk and could have undesirable effects on a nursing infant. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.
Drug Interactions
Combining this medication with opioids (strong pain relievers prescribed by a doctor) can be fatal, as it may cause respiratory arrest and coma.
