Cara Kerja

Wheat dextrin adalah serat yang dapat larut. Wheat dextrin menyerap air di usus untuk membentuk cairan kental yang mendorong peristaltik/gerakan usus dan melancarkan proses buang air besar.

Indikasi

Wheat dextrin merupakan suplemen serat untuk memenuhi kebutuhan serat harian dan dapat digunakan untuk mengatasi sembelit/susah BAB.

Kontraindikasi

  • Riwayat alergi terhadap wheat dextrin sebelumnya.
  • Memiliki penyakit sistem pencernaan, seperti striktur/perlukaan pada esofagus (kerongkongan), perlengketan usus, penyumbatan saluran cerna, impaksi fekal (kumpulan feses yang mngeras di rektum yang tidak dapat dikeluarkan), atau kesulitan menelan.

Efek Samping

Efek samping karena konsumsi wheat dextrin biasanya jarang terjadi. Efek samping yang dapat terjadi yaitu gangguan pada sistem pencernaan seperti perut kembung, sendawa, dan rasa tidak nyaman di perut.

Sediaan

Bubuk, tablet kunyah, kaplet.

Dosis

Sediaan bubuk:

  • Anak usia 12 tahun – dewasa: 2 sendok teh (4 gram) tiga kali sehari
  • Anak usia 6 – 11 tahun: 2 sendok teh (2 gram) tiga kali sehari
  • Anak di bawah 6 tahun: konsultasikan dengan dokter Anda sebelum pemberian
  • Bubuk wheat dextrin dapat dicampurkan ke dalam makanan atau minuman baik hangat maupun dingin. Jangan campurkan bubuk wheat dextrin ke dalam minuman bersoda.

Beberapa makanan juga mengandung tinggi serat, seperti: kacang kering, gandum, buah jeruk, apel, stroberi, kacang polong, dan kentang. Rekomendasi kebutuhan asupan serat harian:

  • Dewasa 19-50 tahun: Pria: 38 g/hari; Wanita: 25 g/hari
  • Dewasa usia di atas 51 tahun: Pria: 30 g/hari; Wanita: 21 g/hari
  • Kehamilan: 28 g/hari
  • Menyusui: 29 g/hari
  • Anak-anak 1-3 tahun: 19 g/hari
  • Anak-anak 4-8 tahun: 25 g/hari; Anak-anak 9-13 tahun: Pria: 31 g/hari; Wanita: 26 g/hari
  • Anak-anak 14-18 tahun: Pria: 38 g/hari; Wanita: 26 g/hari

 Keamanan

  • Penggunaan pada pasien dengan asupan cairan yang tidak cukup/kurang dapat meningkatkan risiko terjadinya impaksi fekal atau penyumbatan usus.
  • Wheat dextrin tidak diserap secara sistemik sehingga kemungkinan aman jika dikonsumsi saat hamil dan menyusui. Konsultasikan terlebih dahulu dengan dokter Anda sebelum mengonsumsi produk ini.

Interaksi Obat

Sampai saat ini belum diketahui interaksi yang signifikan antara penggunaan wheat dextrin dengan obat atau suplemen lainnya.
