Cara Kerja

Dikenal juga sebagai asam folat, berperan dalam pembentukan materi genetik DNA di dalam tubuh.

Indikasi

  1. Suplemen makanan harian
  2. Pencegahan terjadinya kelainan pembentukan tabung saraf pada janin bagi ibu hamil
  3. Kekurangan sel darah merah atau anemia akibat kekurangan asam folat

Kontraindikasi

Riwayat alergi atau hipersensitif terhadap asam folat atau penyusun sediannya, dengan munculnya gejala sepertibiduran atau bengkak pada wajah dan kelopak mata setelah konsumsi vitamin B9.

Efek Samping

Vitamin B9 hampir jarang menimbulkan efek samping yang bermakna pada penggunaannya. Akan tetapi, efek samping yang mungkin timbul dapat berupa keluhan saluran cerna, antara lain:

  • Mual
  • Muntah
  • Nyeri perut
  • Kembung
  • Hilang nafsu makan

Sediaan

Tablet 400 mcg, 1 mg, 5 mg

Dosis

Pencegahan terjadinya kelainan pembentukan tabung saraf pada janin bagi ibu hamil

  • Dosis dewasa: 400 mcg - 5 mg setiap hari dimulai dari 4 minggu sebelum kehamilan dan dilanjutkan hingga melahirkan

Anemia akibat kekurangan asam folat

  • Dosis dewasa: 5 mg setiap hari selama 4 bulan

Pencegahan kekurangan asam folat

  • Dosis disesuaikan dengan angka kecukupan gizi harian:
    • Bayi usia 0 – 6 bulan: 65 mcg/hari
    • Anak usia 7 – 12 bulan: 80 mcg/hari
    • Anak usia 1 – 4 tahun: 150-300 mcg/hari 
    • Anak usia 4 – 9 tahun: 200-400 mcg/hari
    • Anak usia 9 – 14 tahun: 300 mcg/hari
    • Anak usia 14 – 18 tahun dan dewasa: 400 mcg/hari
    • Ibu hamil: 600 mcg/hari
    • Ibu menyusui: 500 mcg/hari

Keamanan

Kehamilan:

Termasuk FDA kategori A (terdapat penelitian terkontrol baik dan memadai yang tidak menunjukkan adanya risiko pada janin dari ibu hamil sehingga aman dikonsumsi) apabila dosis sesuai angka kecukupan gizi.

Interaksi Obat

Obat ini dapat menghambat penyerapan obat aminosalisilat yang berfungsi untuk meredakan peradangan di saluran cerna. Saat vitamin B9 berinteraksi dengan sulfasalazin sebagai salah satu obat aminosalisilat, proses penyerapan asam folat di dalam tubuh dapat terhambat.
