Anda pasti sudah tak asing dengan perasaan mengantuk yang muncul setelah makan siang. Mengantuk setelah makan adalah hal yang wajar dan dialami oleh banyak orang. Rupanya, ada penjelasan mendis di balik situasi ini. Salah satunya adalah pengaruh dari makanan yang Anda makan.

 

Penyebab mengantuk setelah makan

Mengantuk setelah makan adalah kondisi yang wajar dan bisa dialami oleh siapa saja. Hal ini berkaitan dengan beberapa faktor seperti siklus tidur, pola makan dan jenis aktivitas Anda. Bukan hanya mengantuk, setelah makan biasanya Anda merasa kelelahan dan susah berkonsentrasi. Dilansir dari laman Medical News Today, ini beberapa penyebab Anda dapat mengantuk setelah makan:

1. Jenis makanan yang Anda makan

Jika Anda sering mengantuk setelah makan, coba periksa kembali menu makan siang Anda. Menu makanan kaya karbohidrat dan protein lebih cepat membuat Anda mengantuk daripada jenis makanan lainnya.

Para ahli menduga kondisi ini berkaitan dengan produksi serotonin yang meningkat usai makan. Makanan yang kaya protein mengandung asam amino bernama triptofan yang menjadi bahan baku pembuatan hormon serotonin. Serotonin adalah hormon yang berfungsi mengirimkan sinyal antara sel saraf dan mengatur suasana hati. Umumnya serotonin dapat meredakan perubahan emosi, ketegangan dan membuat badan menjadi rileks. Alasan inilah yang membuat makanan kaya protein dan karbohidrat dapat membuat Anda lebih rileks.

Beberapa makanan yang mengandung protein di antaranya salmon, telur, susu, produk olahan kedelai, dan keju. Sedangkan makanan yang mengandung karbohidrat di antaranya pasta, nasi dan aneka kue. 

2. Porsi makan yang Anda makan

Terlalu makan dapat menyebabkan Anda mengantuk. Ketika perut kenyang, tubuh akan mengalirkan lebih banyak darah ke sistem pencernaan untuk membantu mencerna makanan. Akibatnya otak akan kekurangan darah untuk sementara sehingga muncul rasa mengantuk.

3. Kurang tidur

Pola tidur juga memengaruhi rasa kantuk yang timbul setelah makan. Setelah makan tubuh akan merasa kenyang dan rileks sehingga tubuh merasa perlu beristirahat. Jika sebelumnya Anda kurang tidur, maka kemungkinan rasa kantuk Anda akan menumpuk sehingga semakin mengantuk.

4. Kurang bergerak

Tubuh yang kurang bergerak juga dapat menyebabkan badan sangat mengantuk setelah makan. Jika memungkinkan, cobalah untuk berolahraga sebelum makan sehingga tubuh terasa bugar dan segar. Rajin berolahraga akan meningkatkan metabolisme tubuh dan membuat Anda tidak mudah mengantuk.

5. Gangguan kesehatan

Beberapa gangguan kesehatan tertentu dapat membuat Anda mudah mengantuk setelah makan seperti diabetes, anemia, intoleransi makanan. Kondisi ini juga sering dialami oleh pengidap gangguan pernapasan dan sleep apnea.

 

Itulah beberapa penyebab rasa mengantuk yang muncul setelah makan. Selain itu, mengantuk setelah makan juga dapat disebabkan oleh tubuh yang kurang gizi. Jika Anda merasa asupan makanan sudah cukup sehat namun rasa kantuk tetap menyerang setelah makan, jangan ragu untuk konsultasi ke dokter.
