How It Works

There are two Cerebrovit product variants listed on the Indonesian Food and Drug Authority (BPOM) site: Cerebrovit Ginkgo Biloba and Cerebrovit X-Cel. The main component of Cerebrovit Ginkgo Biloba is ginkgo biloba, a natural vasodilator that helps expand blood vessels, promoting better blood circulation to the brain and enhancing memory and cognitive performance.

Cerebrovit X-Cel is a multivitamin with L-glutamic acid as its primary component. This amino acid is highly concentrated in the brain due to its essential role in brain metabolism and its function as an energy source for brain cells.

The supplement also includes B-complex vitamins, which act as coenzymes in the breakdown of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. Ascorbic acid supports the development and maintenance of bones, teeth, organs, and blood vessels. Cerebrovit also contains minerals such as calcium, magnesium, and copper, which act as neurotransmitters, chemical messengers that help transmit signals between brain cells.

Indications

Cerebrovit is taken to help fulfill daily vitamin and mineral needs and to support brain function and memory by enhancing cerebral blood flow.

Contraindication

  • Previous allergic reaction or sensitivity to ginkgo biloba, or to any vitamins and minerals found in Cerebrovit

  • Bleeding disorders: Ginkgo may exacerbate bleeding tendencies

  • Seizures can be triggered by Ginkgo in susceptible individuals

  • Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency: Ginkgo may cause severe anemia in affected patients

  • Patients scheduled for surgery: Ginkgo may slow blood clotting and should be discontinued at least 2 weeks prior to any surgical procedure to reduce the risk of bleeding

Side Effects

Cerebrovit is generally safe when taken as directed. However, some people may experience mild side effects such as:

  • Abdominal discomfort

  • Dizziness

  • Headache

  • Mild allergic skin reactions

Note: Ginkgo biloba in Cerebrovit may increase the risk of abnormal bleeding, easy bruising, or irregular heartbeat (arrhythmia).

Safety

Pregnancy

Ginkgo is not considered safe during pregnancy. It may increase the risk of premature labor or excessive bleeding during childbirth, particularly if taken close to the delivery date.

Breastfeeding

There is not enough reliable data to determine if ginkgo is safe during breastfeeding. L-glutamic acid is excreted in breast milk. Always consult your doctor before taking Cerebrovit while nursing.

Children

Short-term use of ginkgo extract is likely safe when taken orally in children.

Drug Interactions

Taking Cerebrovit may reduce the effectiveness of certain medications when used at the same time, including:

  • Efavirenz (used in HIV treatment)

  • Alprazolam (used to manage anxiety and depression)

  • Ibuprofen (a commonly used pain and fever reliever)
