Salah satu problem diare yang berbahaya pada anak-anak disebabkan oleh infeksi rotavirus. Virus ini sangat mudah dan cepat menular. Infeksinya, bahkan dimulai dalam dua hari setelah terpapar virus.

Rotavirus membunuh sekitar 200 ribu anak setiap tahun, dan ratusan ribu lainnya harus dirawat di rumah sakit.

 

Gejala Rotavirus

Umumnya saat terinfeksi rotavirus anak-anak akan kehilangan nafsu makan, muntah, dan diare. Gejala ini bisa bertahan 3-8 hari sehingga anak-anak sangat mungkin mengalami dehidrasi.

Dehidrasi menjadi salah satu yang perlu diwaspadai karena membahayakan jiwa anak-anak. Anda perlu membawa anak ke rumah sakit apabila saat diare anak-anak juga mengalami gejala berikut:

  • Mengalami diare lebih dari 24 jam
  • Muntah terus-menerus
  • Buang air besar berwarna hitam atau disertai darah atau lendir
  • Mengalami demam 38 derajat atau lebih
  • Terlihat kelelahan, rewel dan kesakitan
  • Mengalami gejala dehidrasi seperti mulut kering, menangis tanpa disertai air mata, buang air kecil sangat sedikit, mengantuk berlebihan dan tidak responsif

Penyebab Rotavirus dan Penyebarannya

Rotavirus disebabkan oleh infeksi virus bernama rotavirus di dalam perut, yang kemudian menyebabkan peradangan di perut dan usus. Sebenarnya tidak hanya anak-anak yang bisa terinfeksi rotavirus, orang dewasa juga bisa mengalaminya.

Rotavirus bisa dengan mudah menyebar saat anak-anak tidak mencuci tangan setelah buang air besar. Virus kemudian dapat mengontaminasi krayon, pensil warna, permukaan wastafel, mainan, gagang pintu, remote televisi, ponsel, permukaan meja, makanan dan apa saja yang disentuh oleh tangan yang terpapar.

Anak-anak berusia 3 bulan hingga 35 bulan adalah yang paling berisiko terinfeksi rotavirus.

 

Cara Mencegah Infeksi Rotavirus pada Anak

Anak-anak yang sedang demam atau mengalami diare sebaiknya tidak diajak bepergian, bersekolah atau bermain di ruang bermain publik. Selain membutuhkan istirahat, anak-anak juga sebaiknya tetap tinggal di rumah untuk mencegah penyebaran infeksi pada anak lain.

Berikut adalah beberapa cara mencegah infeksi rotavirus pada anak, di antaranya:

  • Mencuci tangan sebelum dan setelah mengganti popok anak setidaknya 20 detik dengan sabun dan air bersih
  • Membungkus dan membuang popok yang kotor dengan cara yang benar
  • Membersihkan permukaan benda, mainan, gagang pintu dengan disinfektan
  • Memastikan anak-anak juga sering mencuci tangan dengan sabun dan air bersih
  • Mendapatkan vaksin rotavirus sesuai yang dijadwalkan oleh dokter, yaitu pada usia 2 bulan, 4 bulan dan 6 bulan
