Semasa hamil, ibu hamil perlu menjaga asupan yang dikonsumsi. Makanan dan minuman yang dikonsumsi ibu hamil bukan hanya bermanfaat untuk menjaga kesehatan ibu, namun juga bagi pertumbuhan si kecil. Apabila ibu hamil germar minum alkohol, salah satu risikonya adalah dapat mengembangkan kondisi fetal alcohol syndrome pada bayi yang baru lahir.

 

Fetal alcohol syndrome pada janin

Dilansir dari WebMD, fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS) atau sindrom alkohol janin adalah kondisi kelainan yang terjadi akibat kebiasaan ibu hamil mengonsumsi minuman beralkohol selama masa kehamilan. Fetal alcohol syndrome dapat berkembang menjadi gangguan fetal alcohol disorder dimana anak mengalami kesulitan belajar, masalah serius pada perilaku, pertumbuhan terhambat serta mengalami kelainan wajah.

Kondisi ini diduga disebabkan oleh konsumsi alkohol oleh ibu selama masa kehamilan. Saat ibu minum alkohol, liver bayi belum terbentuk sehingga tidak bisa mengurai alkohol yang masuk melalui plasenta. Akibatnya, organ janin ikut rusak. Efek lain dari konsumsi alkohol selama kehamilan di antaranya adalah keguguran, kelahiran prematur, bayi meninggal dalam kandungan serta gangguan jantung serta ginjal pada bayi.

 

Gejala fetal alcohol syndrome pada masa pertumbuhan anak

Tidak mudah untuk mendeteksi fetal alcohol syndrome pada anak. Dibutuhkan banyak penilaian klinis untuk mendiagnosa anak mengalami fetal alcohol syndrome. Selain dari pengamatan perkembangan fisik, seringkali gejala baru ditunjukkan ketika anak-anak berusia di atas 1 tahun.

Dilansir dari Mayo Clinic, beberapa anak dapat mengalami gejala dengan tingkat keparahan yang berbeda-beda. Gejala pada anak dapat berupa beberapa jenis kelainan fisik, ganguan kognitif dan gangguan perilaku.

1. Kelainan fisik

Anak yang mengalami fetal alcohol syndrome memiliki ciri wajah yang khas seperti mata kecil, bibir atas yang tipis, hidung pendek, dan lingkar kepala dan ukuran otak kecil. Anak juga mengalami cacat jantung dan masalah ginjal dan tulang. Anak juga dapat mengalami masalah kesulitan dan pendengaran.

2. Masalah otak dan sistem saraf pusat

Gejala ini dapat terlihat ketika daya pikir anak mulai berkembang, beberapa gejala di antaranya adanya gangguan belajar dan perkembangan yang tertunda, daya ingat buruk, memiliki masalah dengan pemrosesan informasi, sulit mengidentifikasi konsekuensi dari pilihan, suasana hati yang mudah berubah dan anak-anak cenderung hiperaktif.

3. Gangguan perilaku sosial

Salah satu gangguan pada anak dengan fetal alcohol syndrome adalah anak-anak sulit bergaul di sekolah, susah beradaptasi dengan perubahan atau dari satu tugas ke tugas lain, punya masalah dengan perencanaan tugas dan kesulitan memahami konsep waktu.

 

Untuk saat ini belum ada obat yang bisa digunakan untuk mengatasi fetal alcohol syndrome. Terapi yang diberikan pada anak umumnya perawatan untuk membantu perkembangan fisik anak seperti berjalan, bicara dan interaksi sosial. Anak juga mungkin membutuhkan perawatan medis untuk masalah penglihatan dan jantung. Sedangkan untuk orang tua, bisa dilakukan perawatan konseling untuk menangani anak dengan gangguan tersebut.

Bagi sebagian orang, minum alkohol dapat memberi kenikmatan tersendiri. Namun perlu diingat bahwa minum alkohol, khususnya pada ibu hamil dapat meninggalkan efek jangka panjang bagi kesehatan. Jika Anda berada di usia subur, oertimbangkan untuk membatasi minuman beralkohol khususnya saat Anda berencana menjalani program hamil.
